Gilberto Giannoni a.k.a. Gil Sanders, born in 1989, began his career in 2003. He is the official remixer of Fly Project and Juicy M. At the beginning of 2015 signed a collab track with Juicy M and climbed the TOP 100 Electro House charts Of Beatport. Winner of the award for Best Italian Remixer 2014 at Italian Dance Music Awards 2015.
Gil recently released new track ‘Over The Hill (Feat. Zay)’ and we caught up with him and asked a few questions.
.
.
How did you first get into music? How did your career first begin? Your bio says you began in 2003, which would have made you 14. Is that correct?
I bought my first console when I was 12 years old on 2001. And I started to play at home just for fun. At the same time I bought ‘Magic Music Maker’ for make some music and on 2003 I signed my first production contract. The song was a collaboration with UNDERFISH called “Una Voce Che”. From then on I understood what I wanted to be when I grew up.
.
What kind of music did you grow up on? Has your style changed dramatically in the last 15 years?
Yes, music changed every month lately. I started with Dance Music and now I’m producing Pop or Deep House. I still don’t have a definite style, but I like to change and test different things, and sometimes I like to give to the public what they expect.
.
I saw that you won “Best Italian Remixer” in 2014. Was that a milestone? Did it lead people to take more notice of you? Has it led to any opportunities?
Absolutely yes! I made a lot of good and new connection in my field, I produce a song for Juicy M and I started to work with a super good guy called Tom Ferro, who gave me the possibility to create a good connection with Armada Music. It also gave me the chance to perform in a lot of new clubs in Italy and abroad.
.
How do you find the balance between your everyday life and your musical one?
Good question! Is not easy thing to find, especially when you are your boss, no one tell you what to do or ask you to work on something, it is just you and yourself. By the way, I’m really lucky because my life play around the music that is what I love to do. I do a lot of ‘Ghost production’ that allow me to pay the bills and singers for my songs. So I wake up every day around 9am and I stay all day in studio till midnight. Sometime I take 2/3 days off and I go to visit some good place here in Italy, just to charge my battery, and then I start again.
.
You’ve just released a new song called “Over The Hill” feat. Zay. Can you describe its origins and evolution?
I started to make that song more than 1 year ago, inspired by ‘The Chainsmokers’ style. When I made the instrumental I immediately started looking for a singer, but it wasn’t easy. I wanted find the best for this track, and, thanks to my manager Simone, we finally find the amazing Zay. She gave the track everything it need and she created something magic and special. Maybe she wrote the song over a good hill. I don’t know.
.
How do you see your sound progressing in the future? Who are and were your inspirations?
At the moment I have a lot of music coming out in the next months, some vocal dance tracks and some house/club tracks. Different styles as usual. At the moment maybe my future is Pop, but tomorrow I don’t know. We will see.
.
.
If someone had never listened to Gil Sanders before, what song or album of yours would you direct them to?
Of course I will direct to this peace of my heart: “Over The Hill”.
.
It’s been a long time now. Where do you envision yourself to be in the next 3-5 years?
Is not easy to answer but I can say that I see me doing what I want to do in the right place.
.
If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick? (Dead or Alive)
I would like to pick my parents and then my wife with my sons (when I will have it). At the moment I’m single, so I can take just my family. The family is all, if you are lucky enough to have one.
.
Are there any venues or locations you aspire to play in the future? What are your major goals or milestones for the future?
On August 26thI will perform at Altromondo Studios here in Italy. That is already a goal for me. Is one of the biggest club in the Europe, it was in chart on TOP 100 World Clubs on DJMAG, and all the biggest djs of the world played and playing there. So I have to say thanks to my agency (Black Hand) that realized this little dream for my career. For the future is easy, like almost all djs, the major goals are Tomorrowland and Ultra.
.
Finally, this is a paragraph dedicated to some quick discovery. May sound corny, but for the fans, can you tell me your favorite album, artist, movie, place, drink, meal and person (living or dead) and some brief reasons why? Answer some or all please?
Album: Benassi Bros. – Phobia, is an album from 2005, so almost when I began, and it remind me that period when the music was made for pleasure and not for business.
Artist: I love a lot of artist, someone that always give me a good feeling like Axwell, Avicii, Coldplay and many others from many others genres.
Movie: I like a lot to watch Italian comics movie.
Place: Miami is always in my heart, but there is nothing like Italy.
