In 2017 Yours and Owls entered into a partnership with Plastic Free Wollongong and Citizen Blue to help develop sustainable, environmental strategies to combat the growing problem of plastic polluting the environment. In 2018, we are excited to announce Yours and Owls will be Plastic Free! Single use plastic water bottles, straws, cutlery, and takeaway food containers will be replaced with compostable and reusable alternatives across the two-day event. The move will replace over 15,000 single use items across the two days.

In 2017, the container refund station set up by Plastic Free Wollongong and Citizen Blue received over 50,000cans, and over 25,000 cups. Andy Gray from Plastic Free Wollongong says,

“The stance by Yours and Owls will set a benchmark for how festivals and events in the area can run successfully while minimising their impact on the local environment, it is something the entire community will celebrate”.

Yours and Owls is also partnering with Wollongong City Council to regenerate and restore part of Puckeys Estate, with a day of tree planting and bush regeneration on August 16th. Aside from creating cleaner air, and making Puckeys look purty, twenty lucky locals will have the chance to get their hands on tickets to the 2018, sold out event….

The great folk at Wollongong BushCare have done the hard yardsmy removing a large infestation of invasive weeds, the crew at Wollongong Botanical Gardens will be donating the vegetation to plant, Wollongong council will provide the tools to plant, all you need to do is sign up HERE before August 8th, 2018.

“Seeing rubbish in and about the coastline is a reminder that unless we are conscious of what we do with our waste, our waterways and ocean life will deteriorate. There are so many good people in the community that spend their weeks raising awareness of these issues. We are lucky enough to have a festival right next to the beach and want to do whatever we can to make sure we are contributing to making our town a better place for the future” says festival director Balunn Jones.
