ABC announces another win for live music television with the news that ABC and iview will broadcast the upcoming triple j One Night Stand concert. This comes hot on the heels of rage’s epic Splendour In The Grass Special, highlighting the ABC’s ongoing commitment to broadcasting live music across all its platforms.
Hosted by triple j Mornings presenter Linda Marigliano, the One Night Stand televised broadcast features live performances from Vance Joy, Peking Duk, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids and Alex the Astronaut, as well a bunch of special guests, in a 90min special the day after the concert, at 9:30pm Sun 2 Sept on ABC and iview. With previous ABC coverage capturing incredible moments like Vance Joy appearing on stage with Illy at the One Night Stand in Mildura in 2014, you know you’re in for a treat.
triple j’s annual free, all ages concert provides the chance to experience live music in an area that’s not on the usual musical touring map. It’s also a chance for the rest of Australia to get to know a really special part of the country and this year it’s the Tasmanian town of St Helens’ turn to shine. Throughout broadcasts you’ll get to know some local legends who’ll be putting their town on the map.
As part of this, thanks to triple j Unearthed, you’ll be able to check out local Launceston band The Sleepyheads as they open up the One Night Stand concert with their positive punk rock and clever AF lyrics. They’ve already played some killer shows, having previously supported Dune Rats and Tired Lion and appeared at festivals like Falls and Party In The Paddock so you can expect a big early crowd for these Tassie heroes. Having previously collaborated on a song together, they also count a certain high profile St Helens band as mates, which has us wondering whether they might bring up a special guest?
The Sleepyheads join some of the biggest artists in the country right now, taking to the same stage as Vance Joy, Peking Duk, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids and Alex the Astronaut. Vance Joy hardly needs an introduction, having won over the world since his mega-hit ‘Riptide’ took out #1 in 2013’s Hottest 100. Electronic duo Peking Duk, also fan faves, scored not one but two spots in last year’s Hottest 100. Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza has been making waves ever since she stomped her way on to the scene with breakout song ‘Brontosaurus’, touring and collaborating with big international names like Charli XCX and Killer Mike since. With the release of their debut ‘Lost Friends’ Middle Kids are deservedly one of 2018’s most hyped acts, as is Alex the Astronautwho gave us one of the most empowering songs of 2017 in ‘Not Worth Hiding’.
You can catch all of these incredible acts at the One Night Stand concert in St Helens (TAS) on Sat 1 Sept. Plus you can hear triple j’s live broadcast from 12pm Sat 1 Sept, then watch the highlights on ABC and iview from 9:30pm Sun 2 Sept.
In the meantime, stay tuned to triple j as we announce some special guests and collaborations over the coming weeks!
