Splashing feverish synth hooks with guest vocals from Mammals, Sydney’s L D R U is back with crunchy electronic giant ‘Can’t Drive’. The track is the first piece of new music we have had from the producer since 2017’s hugely successful SIZZLAR mixtape and comes with cover art by celebrated mixed media artist Nick Thomm who has worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus (private commission), London Olympics (live sites across London) and the National Gallery of Victoria.
‘Can’t Drive’ ft. Mammals is a sprawling track which at its heart is relaying a message against driving whilst intoxicated.
L D R U has spent much of 2018 with his head down writing new music with the exception of a much-talked about deluxe set at Splendour in the Grass and a spot on the inaugural Sydney City limits line up.
Hailing from Sydney’s sunny Northern Beaches, L D R U’ s distinct sound made waves and caught the attention of artists including Skrillex, A-Track, Diplo and What So Not with his debut single ‘The Tropics’. Since then, SIZZLAR single ‘Keeping Score’, featuring Paige IV, has been certified double platinum in Australia and hit the Top 15 on the ARIA chart. It came in at #22 on the triple j Hottest 100 2016, has been streamed a mammoth 13 million times since release and helped L D R U secure 3 ARIA nominations at the 2016 ARIAs (Apple Music Song Of The Year, Breakthrough Artist and Best Dance Release). Gold accredited ‘Next To You’ as well as ‘To Be Free’ were both triple j favourites and combined with ‘Keeping Score’ have accumulated a huge 20 million streams for L D R U.
The SIZZLAR mixtape was followed by a sold out capital city tour as well as a regional tour, and was accompanied by a stacked remix pack which saw LDRU producer team up with good friends from around the globe including Paces, Ganz and Zookëper.
L D R U has played the likes of Field Day, Listen Out, Falls Festival and the aforementioned Splendour in the Grass, as well as Electric Forest, HARD, and Splash House in the USA. He has supported the likes of The Chainsmokers locally for their stadium tour as well as NGHTMRE & Slander GUD Vibrations North American tour.
‘Can’t Drive’ is the perfect tune to get onto your speakers this summer and keep your eyes out for a lot more to come from L D R U in 2019.
