They look like a two-piece, sound like a five piece, and move like a hair piece. Frontman Brendon Houlahan plays guitar with his hands, bass with his feet, and sings with his face. Matt Tennant belts the drums really hard, sings a little bit, and wears really dumb shirts while doing it. Together, The Barren Spinsters deliver 70’s Blues Rock With a modern trashy twist. Much the same way that Wolfmother doesn’t.
Their new single ‘West of the Happiness’ channels The Black Crows meets The Black Keys and The White Stripes in a bare fisted all- in brawl!

“I’d been sitting on this song for a while, but it had always been a bit flabby.
“It toughened up pretty quickly once Tennant got his grubby little hands on it. I know it’s uncool to say so, but I really dig this song.”
‘West Of Happiness’ is the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming ‘Ten Steps to Cynical Thinking’ which taps into the bands high energy live shows. When you see this band live they’ll have you dancing, sweating and smiling. It’s part of their – “You must have a good-time at all costs mantra”.
The Barren Spinsters have scored two singles in the Top 10 AMRAP charts. To date, they’ve previously released 3 EPs and 3 singles. They performed and co-wrote with Grammy nominated Nashville artist Travis Bowlin. This band have been rocking it at Festivals up and down the East coast. Most importantly, they’ve been locked away in the studio recording their first full length album, ‘Ten Steps to Cynical Thinking’.
The band has been grinding away for almost a decade. “The creation of this album is really special,” shares front man, Brendon Houlahan, “It was predominately recorded in Matt’s backyard studio or in my kitchen. We’re really proud of what we’ve managed to achieve on a shoestring budget”. Ten Steps really is the whole package.
“We were really excited to have Ruth Palmer, artist known for Enid Blyton cover art, come on board to do the illustrations on our album. I had an image in mind and it was amazing to see it come to life.” – Matt Tennant, Drummer

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
