“Take the spunkiness of Scissor Sisters, the attitude of Azealia Banks, the kookiness of Björk and the colours and vibrancy of a Warhol pop-art print – combine all of that together and you get Haiku Hands.”
– VOGUE UK
“They’re a crew of creatives here to blur the lines between pop and performance art, without the hint of pretence. It’s wild, it’s inclusive and hella fun.”
– NME
“2 words. F*CK YES”
– TRIPLE J

To celebrate the start of their debut headline tour and their announcement on Groovin the Moo this year, Haiku Hands today have released Dare You Not To Dance, the new single from the often described “art-rave” group. Fresh off of being named one of the NME 100: Essential new artists of 2019, the group will be hitting the road this February with stops in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth before going onto a North American tour in March with Japanese group CHAI alongside appearances at SXSW.
A collaboration with some of the talented producers they’ve previously worked with, the group explains the origins of Dare You Not To Dance as follows: “One nonchalantly mutters “I dare you not to dance fucker’s” into a microphone in Sydney and another makes it a hook in a rowdy jam session in Melbourne. This song is an outcome of exploration between Haiku Hands, Joel Ma (Joelistics) and Angus Stuart (El’ Gusto). A bold manoeuvre made to taunt, provoke and defy.”. Filled with in your face production and high energy vocals, DYNTD builds and bursts into life with a beat that is sure to put your body into action. They’ve also released a lyric video for the new single which you can watch here.
Recently Haiku Hands shared an impressive duo of supports for their national tour this February. Hip-hop, RnB and ‘new wave’ funk artist Tasman Keith will be joining the crew for shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne. Meanwhile Haiku Hands regular DJ and MTV personality Flexmami will be warming up the shows with her best selections. Their headline tour follows main support slots on national tours for the likes of UK legends Bloc Party and Aussie electronic heavy weights Flight Facilities late last year. No stranger to the stage in 2018 they also performed almost every major Australian festival including Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, St. Jeromes Laneway Festival, Listen Out, Panama and more.
Dare You Not To Dance follows Squat, Jupiter and Not About You which collectively have amassed over two million streams on Spotify. Not About You in 2017 won the attention of renowned American choreographer Brian Friedman (Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Rhianna and Prince) which saw the So You Think You Can Dance judge feature Not About You in his series of choreography videos which has notched up over 800,000 views. Jupiter was also included on Matt Wilkinson from Beats 1 ‘Best Songs of the 2018 So Far’ list and has received airplay on BBC1and Radio X.
Based across Melbourne and Sydney, the core of Haiku Hands is Claire Nakazawa, Beatrice Lewis and Mie Nakazawa. Together, they curate, perform and work as a collective of artists, engaging and exploring social norms with their lyrical and visual content. Their influences range from hip hop to pop, electronic to dance and everything beyond.
