Australia’s most debonair ’70s disco act Groove City owned 2018 better than John Travolta owned white flares in Saturday Night Fever. They filled the OAF with their own sold-out headline show, delighted at Groovin’ the Moo Canberra, signed with booking agency Maker, released their widely-praised gem Gold Chevrolet (“three minutes and 27 seconds of sexually sharp basslines with seductive vocals, happy-go-lucky hooks and funky instruments that snap and flow”-Purple Sneakers), toured their moustaches and moves around Au/NZ, and closed out the year on Lost Paradise’s mainstage.
This 2019, the Melbourne-based Groove City will continue to do their best to ignore the fact they were probably born in the wrong decade, hitting the ground running with one that’s sure to get you hot under the collar: Heat Of the Moment. Heat of the Moment makes history as the first Groove City original to utilise live bass (along with classic ‘80s synth bass). Eddie Van Halen’s guitar tone the inspiration behind the track’s heavier guitar solo outro, and the track’s drum pattern takes cues from Michael Jackson’s Beat It.
Musically, Heat of the Moment is a sign of things to come for the boys: “Heat of the Moment gets us, and anyone listening to Groove City, ready for what we want our live set to be. Balls to the floor, funk-inspired pop-rock.” says the band’s Daniel Andaloro.
The evolution of their sound comes partly courtesy of a new playa on the GC scene: the devilishly handsome ‘Pistol’, a guitarist who has been involved in the writing and recording of Heat of the Moment, as well as the forthcoming EP tunes, and has a deep knowledge of guitars and tones. Pay your respect to Pistol when you listen to the new tune. With their debut EP on the way, expect a sassy, tight collection of tirelessly crafted funk rock and disco originals. Their debut EP release is just one of the many exciting moves the boys in brogues will be making across the scene in 2019 (literally ‘moves’ – there’s a “LOT of new dance moves throughout the set”, say the boys). In fact, there’s so much fun on the way: you might have to suspend your disco-belief…
Make 2019 the year you book a trip to Groove City!

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
