Mysterious Australian underground popstar NYNE today returns with her highly anticipated new single, ‘I Think You’re’. The enigmatic Melbourne artist; who’s steadily built a reputation for making brilliant and shadowy pop gems including ‘Bad Trip’, ‘Facets’, and ‘Keeping Up’; has now unleashes ‘I Think You’re’ into the world; arguably her most mainstream sounding release to date; while still retaining her trademark mysticism and hypnotic energy.

.

“I wrote ‘I Think You’re’ very fast when I was actually really sick about a year ago,” explains NYNE. “In my voice notes I’ve still got the first versions of the hook, and my voice sounds like death warmed over, it’s actually pretty funny to hear. If you listen really closely there’s a cough in one of the takes that accidentally made it into the finished version! I only noticed it when I heard the mastered final track, but there it is, forever!”

As it turns out, it wasn’t just that illness that played a part in the new single. A combination of Hollywood musical legend Judy Garland and music producer Siyoni were also intrinsic in the formation of ‘I Think You’re’.

.

“When I’m sick I tend to watch old films, especially Judy Garland ones, and she’s got a movie called Strike Up The Band. So, I borrowed that for the opening verse line on ‘I Think You’re’ – “strike up the band, let’s go”. I laid all my vocals down on a very basic beat I made with a dancehall loop on it, and at some point sent it to Siyoni, who I’d previously worked with on ‘Bad Trip’. He killed the production on this track, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I think it started as a song about someone that I thought had a crush on me, but it definitely took on a life of its own, and I’m really proud of the result.”

NYNE first burst on the scene a couple of years ago after building a Soundcloud reputation for her productions to provide the vocal hook and inspiration for Sevn Thomas’ (Rihanna, Travis Scott) breakout single ‘Can’t Sleep Alone’, and thus became the first Australian artist to be associated with Drake’s hip-hop and production outfit OVO. Since then, she’s turned heads with her debut single ‘Bad Trip’, which has over 1 million worldwide streams; and written and performed on Allday’s smash ‘Sides’, as well as Paces’ monster track ‘Savage’; with millions of streams and a whole lot of radio play between them.

NYNE has managed to keep the audience hooked on her every move and now entering into 2019 she is set to continue to build the momentum she’s fed into over the last few years.
