“He breathes life back into the the gender ambiguity of 60’s rock stars and the colorful punk of the 80’s new wave. His music is a slow and synth breath of fresh, nostalgic air. “V Magazine

Another slice of off-kilter pop goodness will be revealed tomorrow, by the greatest Wes Anderson character that never was, Gus Dapperton. The US smooth-crooning sensation has burst forward with a brilliantly pieced together release WHERE POLLY PEOPLE GO TO READ out tomorrow via AWAL Recordings.

PRE-ORDER “WHERE POLLY PEOPLE GO TO READ” HERE

Across 10 tracks, WHERE POLLY PEOPLE GO TO READ builds on the charm of Dapperton’s debut EPs. The release builds on his timeless combination of 60’s soft-rock, 70’s psych and 80’s new wave, while also broadening his sonic palette, as showcased on the R&B hued “My Favorite Fish”. Record opener “Verdagris” is anchored by delicate touches of percussion, the raw “Fill Me Up Anthem” features some of Dapperton’s most poetic lyrics to date, and the rapturous “Eyes For Ellis” reveals the many shades and nuances of his artistry. Alongside his natural knack for songwriting, the album couldn’t feel more current, relatable or authentic.

“The album is basically what I see inside of my head, and it’s the dimension you’re entering when you hear it,” Dapperton explains. “It’s very personal and honest to me. There are a few emotional roller coasters. I’ve come to terms with reality and the inconveniences inherent in how I see things. Being able to express myself however I want, regardless of the resulting good or bad, makes me feel content and real.”

In a short period of time, Dapperton has gone from bedroom dreamer to headlining artist. He quietly ascended to the forefront of the pop conversation on the heels of viral smashes such as “Prune, You Talk Funny” and “I’m Just Snacking”, averaging around 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, and accompanied by videos which burst with style, charisma and a cinematic eye. He has also sold out shows worldwide and earned acclaim from the likes of NY Times,  i-D, Vogue, The Fader and Pigeons & Planes.
