Goose Island is set to host its inaugural Block Party in Australia as part of Good Beer Week 2019 on Saturday 11th May.

In collaboration with Geddes Lane Ballroom and Melbourne-based creative agency DeathproofGoose Island will be opening up an iconic Melbourne CBD laneway for the first time ever to host its block party festival event which will bring an all-star cast of Aussie musicians, food, artists together with Goose Island brews for an event that celebrates the Melbourne culture.

Since the brewery’s first ever event in Chicago in 2012, which enlisted then up-and-coming headlining artist, St. Vincent, the annual 2-day block party has become one of Chicago city’s biggest summer festivals with performances by music artists including The Vaccines, TV on the Radio, Vic Mensa, White Denim, Matt and Kim, Twin Peaks, and has grown to pop up all over the world with parties in Sao Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, London, and now Melbourne.

The first Melbourne-based block party will feature a lineup of local Melbourne music heroes including Ecca Vandal, Moaning Lisa, Bench Press, The Bennies (DJs) and DZ Deathrays (DJs) and joined by Headliner, The Hard Aches from Adelaide. Art installations and custom merchandise by Melbourne artists Callum Preston and George Rose and local food trucks by My Benny Burger and Snag Society – all with a bit of a Chicago-inspired flare.

Andrew Vance, Head of Marketing for Goose Island Australia, said that the Goose Island block party started in Chicago not just as an event for the brewery, but also an opportunity to lay down roots down and become a valued part of the local community. The Melbourne event, he said, is a way of doing the same here.

“We’ve put on block parties out the back of our brewery in Chicago for 7 years now and having launched Goose Island in Australia back in 2017, we thought the time was right to bring our famous block party to Melbourne and what better time than as part of Good Beer Week!”

“Our block parties bring together and celebrates different aspects of Chicago urban street culture with local music, food and of course a full lineup of Goose brews, and we can’t wait to thank our Australian fans by bringing together some of Melbourne’s finest music acts, artists, street vendors, along with some of our limited edition beers for one day only.”

Goose Island will be showcasing some of its IPA portfolio and barrel aged program brews at this year’s Melbourne Block Party. The event will host a tap takeover with a pop-up Taproom and Sour Station with beers including IPA, Session IPA, Cooper Project #2 and the entire Sour Sisters range (Juliet, Lolita, Halia, Gillian and Madame Rose). The brewery will also showcase some limited-edition brews shipped from the brewery in Chicago for this event ONLY including 312 (Dry Hopped), Saison La Mure, SPF (Saison Passionfruit), and Old Man Grumpy.

Tickets to the event are $25 and can be purchased through the Good Beer Week website.

About Goose Island
Goose Island has led the craft beer movement in the United States for almost three decades. Inspired by a fateful visit to Europe, founder John Hall opened a brewpub in what was then a rundown neighbourhood in his hometown of Chicago, and started making experimental beers on site. It was a gutsy move, which paid off. Today Goose Island has a well-earned cult following for creating award-winning, innovative beers which both redefine classics and push the limits of what beer can be. In 2017 Goose Island landed in Australia and proudly began brewing its award-winning IPA, and newly developed Session IPA. Since the move, the brewery has released a range of limited- edition beers as well some of its famous barrel-aged brews including the coveted Bourbon County Stout and Sour Sisters range.
