The Beatles – I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
For some reason I’m naturally attracted to dark things, music, film etc.
Everyone loves The Beatles, and this track is probably one of their darkest songs, if not the darkest (sonically speaking). The instrumental at the end is just great psychedelic rock n roll. It’s a track I forget exists, but whenever I hear it I get really excited and want to cover it, so I added it to this playlist I have of songs that I’m consciously being influenced by.
.
Elvis Presley – A Little Less Conversation
Elvis, the man who arguably created rock n roll, or at least brought it to a large audience and played a big part in it’s beginnings. The band and I actually cover this one at our gigs, it’s just exciting, everyone knows it, it’s short, fast, energetic and a bit of a crowd pleaser.
.
Nancy Sinatra – Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)
It plays in the opening credits of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol 1, after Uma Thurman is shot, that’s almost enough of a reason for me to be a fan, Quentins choice of music in his films is amazing, always able to pick something that perfectly matches what’s going on in the scene. The song is so emotive and I love the guitar sound, its got that sort of spaghetti western thing going on which I draw a lot of inspiration from.
.
Scott Walker – The Man And The Colt
Scott Walker sadly passed away very recently, I had actually only discovered his work about a year ago, if that. I didn’t realise how much influence he had on modern artists today that inspire me, until people started posting about his death. I’ve really started to appreciate artists like Scott Walker that sing low and crooner like, something I’m doing more of in songs I’m writing now as apposed to always hitting the highest note I can.
.
Curtis Mayfield – Here but I’m Gone
I’ve been a big of fan of Curtis Mayfield for a long time, but only heard this song recently. It’s a sad one, not as old as a lot of his classics. This track came out on his album “New World Order” in 1997. I think it’s about him looking at his life as an older man and questioning how he got where he is now, in a negative sense, at least that’s what I got out of it. The song elicits a certain emotion that I don’t think is easy to evoke, whilst having groove and a darker version of that 70’s funk sound he’s so famous for.

BEAU LIGHTNING
releases white hot new track
“Rock ‘N’ Roll Life”
.
Adelaide alternative-rock artist BEAU LIGHTNING’s psych-rocker edge is eloquently showcased in his new single “Rock ‘n’ Roll Life”, premiered on Friday 10th May by Culture Eater. This fiery arrangement of electric guitar and psychedelic, struck through with husky, dissonant vocals, feels just the right kind of dangerous. This is LIGHTNING‘s third single, following the success of his debut “Last Night” and follow up “Don’t Get Bit”, and it shows the rocker emerging with a trademark swagger in his very own creative space in Australian rock.

The song was written from the perspective of the BEAU LIGHTNING alter ego, a character created by the artist, Eli, to allow him the freedom to say and do things that are egotistical and full of bravado. From the Marilyn Manson-inspired vocals in the verses, to the opening line referencing the Oasis brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher, the track plays with the classic old folk tales of successful people selling their soul to the rock’n’roll devil.
“I wrote it from the perspective of a character I made up, a character whose idea of success is maybe more about what comes along with it, as opposed to the pure appreciation of his artform…I really just took the piss out of rock star cliché’s and it was a lot of fun doing that,” said LIGHTNING. “Although the song is dark and feels serious, it is meant to be fun and full of character. Hopefully people don’t think I’m taking myself too seriously!”
The music of BEAU LIGHTNING, which would feel just as at home on a Western movie soundtrack as it would at a smoky bar-gig, gives nods to bands like Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys and Wolfmother.
LIGHTNING, who previously released songs under his given name ELI, is inspired by California daze, the desert surrounding the city of sin, cowboys, and the moon landing. Eli has been involved in a number of bands and projects from his teens through to his early 20’s. When the band ‘Lucid Dreams’ broke up he realised it was time to go it alone and hone his songwriting skills. After writing his first single “Last Night”, which made it as MTV Upload of the Week and gained praise from PileRats, Happy Magazine and LifeWithoutAndy, the concept of BEAU LIGHTNING was born.

“Once I created this character, this alter ego, it honestly opened me up to a whole new world of writing I didn’t think I could ever go down or pull off. I genuinely feel like I unlocked something in myself that I’m really proud of,” said BEAU.
With more releases promised throughout the year, BEAU LIGHTNING has lit a fire in Australia’s rock scene that is showing no sign of going out.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
