Crank up your stereo as punk is back!! Amyl And The Sniffers are bound for huge success and their self titled debut album will be released on May 24 on Flightless Records and is pure hard rocking bad ass punk. Just flipping brilliant.
The Hi-NRG punk band from Australia, first hit the music scene with debut EP, Giddy Up in 2016 and instantly grabbed the attention of music fans and critics the world over. Drawn to the magnetic energy of front woman powerhouse Amy Taylor and energised even further by the tough inner city punk rock of her rocking band members Gus Romer (bass), Bryce Wilson (drums) and Declan Martens (guitar), Amyl And The Sniffers are classed as one of the hottest punk acts to emerge on the world stage in the past few years.
Their second EP, Big Attractions, was released in February 2017, then re-released as a 12” double EP with Giddy Up, through Homeless Records in Australia and Damaged Goods in the UK. Both radio stations PBS FM and Triple R FM in Melbourne made the record ‘Album of the Week’ and the band went on the sell-out multiple Australian headline shows. 2018 saw limited edition vinyl copies of Giddy Up/Big Attractions fly off the shelves, pushing Amyl And The Sniffers into the Top 40 on the UK Vinyl Charts.
The band made their international debut at The Great Escape Festival in May followed by sold out shows in London, before flying out to L.A to join King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on a 22 -date tour of the U.S. Return trips to both the UK and US followed later in the year, where the band played to packed houses and rave festival reviews.
Amyl And The Sniffers kicked off 2019 with an impressive appearance at SXSW, where they were listed as the first of Rolling Stone’s top 30 acts of the festival, followed by a sold-out tour of the U.S. In June, they return to Europe to play festivals including Primavera Sound, Roskilde, Rock Werchter, and Mac Demarco’s inaugural Dreamland festival in Margate. Rocking news!!

Here is the review for Amyl And The Sniffers self-titled debut album….Are you ready? You are in for a wild ride!! Hard hitting opening track ‘Starfire 500’ starts off as instrumental track then halfway through Amy starts rocking it with her powerful vocals. Drumming is absolutely brilliant from Bryce Wilson. Guitar oh yeah!! Love the outro.
Up next is ‘Gacked On Anger’. Wow! Very good track. Love the songwriting about everyday harsh reality about struggles. We can all relate to some of these lyrics!! This one is going to be popular and Amy’s brash punk vocals are oustanding. ‘Cup Of Destiny’ is a straight up party anthem and worthy of a mosh pit. The guitar licks and slides are awesome from Declan Martens and Gus Romer.
‘GFY’ is an absolute hard-hitting ripper of a track that takes no prisoners. No apologies simplistic songwriting that works! Great punk track with some hot electric guitar. Power to the people!! ‘Angel’ is a slower paced love song with some awesome guitar work by Declan. Amy’s voice once again shines through – even better than Wendy James!
‘Monsoon Rock’ is a heavy rock song with plenty of screaming and profanity from Amy – boom boom pow!! Fast, hard-hitting stuff. The drums and guitars just left me speechless – one of my favourite tracks on the the album. ‘Control’ opens with a cool guitar riff and Bryce Wilson’s drumming is just marvellous! Mosh pit worthy and another top track.
‘Got You’ has recently been released as a single and is about the feeling you get when you first start seeing someone. One of the sweetest songs and has a bubble gum, retro style. ‘Walk in the room and I start blushin’..love it….Inspired by Split Enz. Amyl And The Sniffers worked with Melbourne director Triana Hernandez for the video and it was decided to make it less like a love song and more cheeky. Will definitely be a hit.
‘Punisha’ reminded me a little of the Prodigy song ‘Firestarter’. The vocals are super fast and the guitars and drums are perfect! Penultimate song on the album, ‘Shake Ya’ is a real skateboarder song with a little infused wipeout sounds. It is perfectly put together and I loved dancing to this one! Last track ‘Some Mutts’ (can’t be muzzled) has some cosmic guitar distortion and fantastic vocals.
Buy the CD now!! The album of the year!
