Cloning are a Perth based band who have found sonically unique heights with their new single “Special”, to be released on May 31st.
The group took shape among school friends Felix (vocals and guitar), Jack (drums) and Nic (bass) following the tragic loss of a close friend and musician. With this shared experience the group grew closer and became more invested in their musical pursuits. They were later joined by Bevan (guitar) when he moved to Perth from Kalgoorlie. “Special” is the first offering from their forthcoming debut EP Pillars of Salt and explores ideas of mortality and legacy.
Cloning’s music is influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Slowdive, Portishead, and The Doors. Lyrically, Felix cites an interest in the idea of legacy, and how the legacy we leave behind can affect others. “I’d like to think that ‘Special’ can be pretty open ended and that it could mean different things to different people. It centres around the importance of getting the most out of life and living up to your potential because life can be so fleeting and unpredictable” explains Felix.
“Special” was recorded at Blackbird Studios with WAM award winningengineer/producer Dave Parkin. Bevan explains, “We write our music by recording at Felix’s house and tinkering with the recordings. So going into the studio we already had some clear ideas for how we wanted ‘Special’ to sound, especially with the drums and guitars. Dave our engineer helped us to realise the sounds that we were after.”
The band’s forthcoming EP is a reflection of each member’s varied musical backgrounds and draws from many different influences. Stay tuned for the release of the EP due out later this year.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
