TOM TILLEY
takes a break;
AVANI DIAS, ALICE MATTHEWS
and LAURA MURPHY-OATES
to guest host HACK

After steering triple j’s Hack program through the recent federal election and educating triple j listeners on the benefits of a ‘poo roadie’, Tom Tilley will be taking a break from daily Hack hosting duties to work on an ABC Foreign Correspondent assignment, as well as a book.
For the next three months, you’ll be joined by three incredible journalists who’ve all had a Walkley Award nod, as triple j Brekkie newsreader Alice Matthews, Hack reporter Avani Dias and The Feed presenter Laura Murphy-Oates take it in month-long turns to keep young Australians up to date on the daily issues that matter to them.
Our first guest host, Avani Dias grew up in South West Sydney. Since joining triple j, Avani has worked as a reporter for Hack and triple j news, and brought you stories from around Australia on ABC TV, radio and online. She’s also a 2019 Walkley Finalist for Young Journalist of the Year for her ongoing reporting into a student who was wrongly accused of terrorism offences.
Excited to get stuck in, Avani says “Throughout my life, Hack has helped me learn about the world and my place in it. I care so much about what we cover and experience a lot of it in my own life, so I feel privileged and excited to take over the Hack reins for the next month.”
Joining the ABC in 2015, Alice Matthews has done everything from research for ABC Radio Current Affairs to reporting in Bega before joining triple j as a news presenter, who currently keeps triple j Brekkie listeners informed every weekday. Add to that a 2015 Walkley for Young Journalist of the Year and two publications for the UN on confidential sources and fake news and you know you’re listening to a bona fide expert.
Completing the Hack guest host line up is Laura Murphy-Oates, a Ngiyampaa Weilwan woman and the 2018 Walkley winner for Young Journalist of the Year. For the past six years Laura has worked at SBS and NITV, most recently as a presenter and producer at The Feed. Having reported from remote areas across Australia, Canada and the US, Laura has a focus on racial discrimination and gender equality and is excited to bring her love of news and Indigenous affairs to Hack.
Over the next three months we’ll also be releasing more results from triple j’s What’s Up In Your World survey, including how young people feel about sex, drugs, mental health and the environment.
Tune into Hack on triple j from 5:30pm weekdays.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
