Set to take the stage this week for a series of rare performances in Melbourne, Sydney (sold-out) and Brisbane, Washi
Captured by acclaimed director and partner in crime, Nick Waterman, the elegantly produced visual accompaniment is rich with iconography, grace and glamour. Conceived in a matter of days, the production for the video was largely improvised in the moment. “Any space can be sacred, any place can be holy, magical, a portal to a transcendental dimension,” muses Washington of the clip.
Today, Washington is also featured alongside Ro and Didirri on indie-pop artist JEFFE’s cover of the classic Talking Heads’ track Road to Nowhere.
Dirty Churches follows on from the recent and first ever remixes of Washington’s catalogue. The package included a Julian Hamilton (The Presets) American Spirit acid rework – accompanied with four-on-the floor driving beats and spacey effects which earned Washington a fresh wave of supporters from the underground house and techno scene. Japanese Wallpaper dropped a blissful and restrained interpretation on the Clawsrework taking their mutual admiration the next level after Washington provided the soaring vocals on his euphoric single Fooling Around.
This year, Washington was painted by artist Loribelle Spirovkski for her Archibald Prize Finalist entry. She thrilled audiences at an intimate single launch at the Golden Age in Sydney, a sold-out Adelaide Festival show and made a surprise performance to elated fans at Mountain Goat Valley Festival in Brisbane. She also joined Clews, JEFFE and Charlie Collins to provide backing vocals for Flint Eastwood’s triple j Like A Version.
