“Vocals of whispered, unassuming Jose Gonzalez tone, lead us down twisted, unexplored paths as a compliant palette of folk-skewed pop follows.” – Rolling Stone Australia

“Australian indie-folk duo, Hollow Coves bring an atmospheric wanderlust to life with their debut album…
With one EP and now one album, Hollow Coves have already succeeded in making what can only be described as a signature sound. The self-reflective lyrics with the harmonising vocals combined with earthy folk acoustics are perfectly executed…
Listening to this record, the world around us could disappear but we’d still be in bliss, with good energy surrounding us.”
– Clash Magazine (UK) on “Moments”
The duo’s passion for positivity and lightness is reflected in their highly acclaimed brand of indie-folk which blends reflective lyricism and earthy voices in perfect harmony. Aiming to bring their own optimistic and hopeful outlook on life to the forefront, the boys wrote the latest single from the album ‘Anew’ with the intent to change the perspectives of those who need a touch of brightness.
“‘Anew’ is definitely one of the songs that we are most passionate about on the album. After our ‘Wanderlust’ EP, we got a message from a young girl telling us that she’d battled major clinical depression for years. She then heard our music and something in our music touched her and gave her hope again. We were absolutely blown away that our music could make such a powerful difference in someone’s life.”

The whole album carries the spirit of ‘Anew’; something that the boys purposefully crafted.
“When we were writing for the album we wanted to be intentional about writing songs that would connect with people,” they said. “We wanted to make music that could give people a sense of hope, and help inspire people to see the beauty in life and make the most of the time we have on this earth. In a world that can often seem chaotic, our focus can so often be pointed towards all the bad things that are happening. We wanted to use our platform to make music that could speak positivity and peace into people’s lives and help point their focus back to see the beauty in this world, and in themselves.”
The title track, ‘Moments’ was written while the boys were on tour in Norway. The pair were going back and forth, trying to decide between exploring the beautiful country and getting well-needed rest. Ultimately, they decided to go for it, and it resulted in what the boys claim to be, the most beautiful hike ever.
“When we got back that evening we couldn’t help but think how much of a shame it would have been if we had just stayed in that afternoon. We would have missed out on such an incredible experience. It made us realise that in life there are only so many moments when you have the choice between doing something that could be really special, or just doing something comfortable and easy.”
Their first single in the string of releases leading up to this album, ‘When We Were Young’, initially conceived in Brisbane and finished in Europe, pairs a soft beat, lush acoustic guitar, and dreamy piano with reflective lyrics. A shared harmony by Matt and Ryan underscores the song with pensive and poetic nostalgia.
Pairing a playful guitar with their sweet melodies, ‘Borderlines’ is Hollow Coves daring their listeners to push past boundaries and live life to its absolute fullest. The track will pull forth a sense of adventure in even the most pensive of listeners.
Originally intended to be on their critically acclaimed EP, “Wanderlust”, ‘The Open Road’ is this album’s ode to the EP, and to the band’s beginnings. Exuding the same feeling and message, this track will have you itching to get out onto the road, and travel,
“It’s definitely the most chilled song on the album. It’s all about the urge to leave a mundane life and hit the open road. Dreaming of all the places that you are yet to discover.”
Leaning into heavier territory, ‘Adrift’ delves into the notion of being lost and unsure of your path. Despite the darker subject matter, the track is full of energy, and still leans towards the positive heart of Hollow Coves.
‘Patience’ is the perfect reiteration of the tried and true saying, “Patience is a virtue.” The boys found inspiration for this track as, “Often people can tend to rush decisions in life and are left feeling empty because they don’t wait for what was actually intended for them,” and this song serves as the perfect reminder to wait for good things to come.
Once again reflecting on life’s ups and downs, ‘Ran Away’ sees Hollow Coves reflecting on their own experiences of drifting from once close friends. Leave it to this dynamic duo to tackle weighted subjects in a lively and energetic manor, resulting in a dynamic tune.
Cinematic and slow, ‘Beauty In The Light’ is a beautiful arrangement about truth seeking, and the idea that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The boys describe it as
“a message to someone trapped in a situation that they can’t see the end of. ‘Beauty in the Light’ is a song about pushing down the walls/lies that are in front of us and moving towards a brighter future with a whole new perspective on life.”
‘Notions’ is a song that is so true to Hollow Coves’ spirit as artists. They explain that the song is all about,
“Encouraging people to make the most of their time on this earth, ‘Notions’ was written to inspire the listener to take a chance at something they love and live a life of wonder. It’s all about seizing the moment and going for the opportunities that arise. We’ve found that so many people settle for something they don’t enjoy. ‘Notions’ motivates us to take a chance and go for what we love.”
The closing track ‘Pictures’ perfectly sums up the journey of the album; a perfect closer. Once again tackling the theme of nostalgia with perfect delicacy, ‘Pictures’ touches on reflecting on memories and reminiscing on golden days, but realising that that life is still moving forward, and we can’t be stuck in the past.
It’s clear that Hollow Coves’ melodies are not only a beacon of bright optimism but that their lyricism is backed by poignant reflection on the living world around them. Australian fans will be able to catch the band performing songs from their new album, as their national tour kicks off on the 16th of January 2020.

As affirmed by nearly 200 million total streams on their 2017 debut EP ‘Wanderlust’ and comparisons to names such as Simon & Garfunkel, Ben Howard, Angus and Julia Stone, and Coldplay, Hollow Coves quietly emerged as a phenomenon. The two singles, “Coastline” and “Home”, surpassed 30 million streams each on Spotify, and their song “The Woods”, both the original and acoustic versions, collectively gathered over 40 million streams and over 10 million views on YouTube.
Meanwhile, the boys toured alongside the likes of Tom Walker and headlined packed shows around the globe. The duo have had huge live success around Australia, selling out their most recent headline tour well in advance. Hollow Coves also picked up Woodford Folk Festival sets in 2018 after playing 2017’s Australian Music Week to standing ovations. They scored two awards at the 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards, with their song “Coastline” taking out Song of the Year and the duo winning Breakout Artist of the Year. The duo were also part of the 2018/2019 NYE on the Hill Festival line-up. The first two singles revealed from their upcoming album “Moments” have received praise from media worldwide, including Clash Magazine (UK) and Billboard (US).
Hollow Coves emanate an enduring light with every song and show. With a shared vision the boys agree, “We hope our music can at least have some sort of positive impact. If people walk away with a changed perspective, inspired, motivated, or just a little bit more stoked with life, then we would consider that a success.”

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
