After bursting onto the scene back in August with debut single ‘Used To’, and shortly thereafter with ‘Mind’, Brisbane based singer/songwriter/producer Hartley today unveils a very personal and empowering third single in ‘Own’. Watch the visualiser above.
Penned after months of struggling with her own self-worth and the mental hurdles that ensue, standout single ‘Own’ was conceived.
“When I was starting music in an intimidating, male-dominated industry, I felt powerless and already misjudged as a female vocalist and producer. I struggled with these feelings for a really long time. But I realised that I didn’t need anybody’s approval. If they didn’t like what I was doing, it was their problem, not mine. That’s when I wrote Own.”
‘Own’ bodies Hartley’s ‘screw you all’ / genre-defying approach to production, alongside dreamy vocals and emotive lyrics that speak to listeners in phrases like “My love is for myself today.” and “Did you think I’d need another body, to make me feel like I’m somebody?”.
In the lead up to Ausmusic T-Shirt Day this November 15th Hartley is set to release a limited number of her own t-shirts, available via the Warner Music Australia store HERE with $5 from each sale being donated to Support Act. For more information on Support Act, please visit www.supportact.org.au
Inspired by how it feels to convert one’s diary into song, Hartley began looping her vocals acapella, she then knew that production was the key to further explore. From writing and recording songs, to painstakingly shaping each synth sound, her music is as much a testament to Hartley as a songwriter and producer as it is to her as a vocalist.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
