Hot on the heels of releasing her first single, ‘Pray’, up-and-coming artist MAYAH today shares the accompanying video, directed by Nick Stevens and Jon Baxter (Manu Crooks, B Wise, OneFour).
For her first release, MAYAH shines a spotlight on the culture of social media and the idea of a ‘curated reality’. ‘Pray’ is a self-reflection on social pressures and comparisons and the ‘highlight reels’ that we see, and share, on the daily scroll. It comes from a place of vulnerability, questioning why time spent on social media can often lead to feelings of discontent and self-doubt.
‘Pray’ also looks at how our own perspective can play a role in how we’re impacted by the daily scroll. The video shows a character behind the scenes, dealing with this world of social media and how this translates into their own life.
The Brisbane-based-Cairns-born MAYAH worked with Melbourne producer Rob Amorusoon her first release. With a childhood soundtrack made up of artists such as Lauryn Hill, TLC, Massive Attack and Moby merged with years of studying music, MAYAH’s music fuses R&B, hip-hop and electronic staples.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
