Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
Yes, I have always wanted to be musician. I guess my music obsession started when I was 11 or 12 and I’d rearrange words to the songs I’d hear. I always thought why did they put that word there? why is there a pause there? My first ever song I wrote I was 12-13 years of age and It wasn’t pretty. I distinctly remember writing a few songs in quick succession and being excited to see what else I could come up with.
Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
I grew up listening to a lot of older music. A lot of R&B, Motown, Soul and Disco music. I also listening to a lot of crooner classics such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Luis Prima. In my teens I listened to Top 40 and a lot of Rap & Hip Hop music. I like to take elements from all my tastes and try to incorporate them into the stories I tell through my music.
How would you describe your sound?
I’d describe it as fun, funky and eclectic. I like to blend life and fun into most of my songs and bring a good groove that makes you feel good.
Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I believe they resonate with my music as each song will take you on a new journey and a new story. Each of the tracks can be dissected in many different ways depending on how you’re feeling. I’ve been getting a lot of feedback saying thanks for writing about how I feel and how they couldn’t of explained there current feelings any better.
Your new single I Need Space has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
The song started off after a phone conversation with a family member regarding a breakup. I was in the studio writing and I get a phone call, they said to me “I just need my space” and 5 minutes later the chorus was written and the song was on its way. I was quite melancholy about the phone call and it all just came out. So luckily for that phone call otherwise the track would’ve taken a different turn.
Do you have any more new music in the works?
I sure do! J I have an EP in the works with about 8 tracks already done. Hopefully we can release it before the new year and have another single released at the same time.
Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I do not as of yet, but there will be some announced very soon. Fans can expect high energy, fun and funk when they come and see myself perform. We’re planning a show at the moment and we plan to tour locally in the coming months. See the socials for upcoming dates.
.
.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Wow great question! There are so many great artists, but I’d have to say Otis Redding or Marvin Gaye. Their music has such a great effect on me and even to this day I can’t go past feeling such great emotion when hearing there songs
What’s next for you in the near future?
In the near future the plan is to release my EP and get touring! I also plan on continuing to write music and work with some more amazing artists on future projects.
What are your longer-term aspirations?
Longer term I’d like to do a full album with some of the best producers I can find. I’d also like to write for other artists and publish music as regular as possible. One day it would be great to achieve recognition from my peers if my work deserves it. Grammy? Haha
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
The best thing is feeding off their energy and seeing other people sing your words. It amazes me that words that you’ve written can affect others so much. The feeling of being on stage and seeing the crowd before you really makes you feel whole.

MR BIG STUFF
announces debut single & video
I NEED SPACE
Feat. STRANGE TALK
Exciting newcomer Mr Big Stuff recently announced his brilliant, hooky debut single I Need Space, featuring synthpop auteurs Strange Talk. Mr Big Stuff, otherwise known as Gregory Truman, has also announced a quirky and fun video clip to accompany the track, created in collaboration with Lionel Towers (Gypsy & The Cat) and Andrew Mortlock (Cookin’ on 3 Burners, The Griswolds). I Need Space is a witty, poppy introduction to this up and coming Australian hip hop artist.
I Need Space is a great example of a satisfying and exciting cross-section of pop and hiphop, and it’s impressive to see an artist debut with such a strong, established sound and aesthetic. Cool and collected, Mr Big Stuff’s brilliant lyricism floats cleverly atop a bed of rolling percussion and smooth synths. Strange Talk is the perfect artist to join in on I Need Space, and as the track leans into the chorus, you’ll be hard-pressed to get the vocal hook out of your head.
“I Need Space was inspired by a break up close to my family. I was at the studio writing and I got a call from one of the people involved in the breakup. We got talking and as I was holding back tears, they said to me I just need my space,” explains Mr Big Stuff, “I was in a bit of a sad mood, not knowing what to do – so I walked back into the studio, and 5 minutes later I Need Space was born.”
The clip for I Need Space travels far and wide, as the scene jumps from a surrealist library, to a vast desert landscape, to apocalyptic carpark, to an infinite galaxy. The colourful, psychedelic clip is a feast for the eyes, and, juxtaposed against the melancholy theme of the lyrics, presents a vibrant reflection of a relationship that has just ended. It’s fun, it’s strange, and it’s a must-watch, as Mr Big Space explains,
“Originally we had a space theme idea and then we kind of went for an idea of space overall – as in, the landscape of space and being transported to different worlds. I had just gotten back from overseas when the idea for the clip was formed, and within a week we had set up filming locations, props, outfits, etc. It was a lot of work by the whole team and I’m very grateful to quality of the content that was produced.”
Mr Big Stuff is a new face on the scene, but it won’t stay that way for long, as an EP is already in the works for the charming hip hop artist. Music and dance has been a passion for Mr Big Stuff since childhood, as he sweetly enthuses,
“I love to live life to the fullest. I was in a bad state, mentally and health-wise, for a while there, but now I have a new zest on life. I used to hide away because of my size, but now I embrace it! I got into making music through dancing, and the love and feeling that music gave me. I’m filled with joy to be able to finally come out from the shadows and show the world what has always been inside of me.”
