Praise for Mighty Oaks

“Mighty Oaks’ songs acquire a further and deeper meaning once you hear them live as singer Ian Hooper likes telling the stories behind some of the songs during shows… despite getting more and more well known remain genuine and very down-to-earth, which is one of the most admirable qualities they have aside their obvious talent. ”Indie Nation

“I think “Dreamers” might be one of the catchiest, yet classiest Folk albums I’ve heard in a while. It offers a fantastic selection of tempos; dreamy and beautiful ballads, as well as up-beat Folk-Rock track.” – Vanessa Jertschewske, House in the Sand

“Mighty Oaks write honest, authentic and emotionally driven songs. With songs set amidst wonderful landscapes come tales of love, loss and the beauty of all that surrounds. We talk to the band about their solid bond, feeling vulnerable about critics and climbing trees…” The Seventh Hex

Topping off an incredible 2019, Berlin-based indie-folk trio Mighty Oaks have blessed our ears and souls once again with new single “Forget Tomorrow”, out today.

Touring musicians know the story all too well; packed bags and long goodbyes, exchanging the comforts of home for a rumbling tour bus or solitary hotel room, often for months at a time. This is reality for Mighty Oaks, and since all the band members of the Berlin-based trio have become fathers they find it especially tough to leave home.

“Playing live is definitely something we thrive on as a band. The energy of a live show, the immediate feedback from the crowd…those things made us the band that we are today, and are the reason why we play music,” says singer Ian Hooper. “But leaving the family isn’t easy for anyone, especially when you mix in different time zones and crazy schedules. I met my wife right before the band found success. Ever since she’s known me, she’s known me as a touring musician. No matter how many times I’ve left to go on tour, it’s always like the first time for her, and it never gets easier for her to watch me walk out the door.”

“Forget Tomorrow” is a song Hooper wrote about living in the moment and enjoying each other’s company, instead of fretting about the inevitable. And the inevitable can be the indisputably wonderful.

Ian Hooper (US), Claudio Donzelli (Italy), and Craig Saunders (UK) have crafted masterpiece upon masterpiece since the formation of Mighty Oaks almost 10 years ago. Having recently joined The Lumineers on their tour across Europe, the group continues to grow at every point surprising their existing fanbase and entice new ones to their shows each year.

Mighty Oaks’ self-produced and recorded EP “Driftwood Seat” earned them over 63,000 fans and 370,000 plays on SoundCloud. 2 years succeeding their EP, “Just One Day” – their debut studio EP – saw several chart entries and single of the same name broadcast on radio stations across Europe, along with the trio opening for The Lumineers, First Aid Kit, CHVRCHES, and Kings of Leon.

“Howl” – their debut album – was released at the beginning of 2014 with both European and international chart entries that followed, while their single “Brother” gained massive airplay throughout Europe, and had sold out their European tour the Spring that same year. The European Festival Awards 2014 saw the trio win “Newcomer of the Year” and were featured on the lineup for multiple festivals including Melt! Festival (Germany), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Latitude (UK), Slotsfjell (Norway), Way Out West(Switzerland), Exit Festival (Serbia), Dockville (Germany), and Valkhof (The Netherlands).

2015 saw the band release their album in the United States, and tour around the US with the renowned, Milky Chance. The trio also featured on the lineup for festivals including Rock am Ring (Germany), Rock im Park (Germany), Lowlands (Netherlands), St. Gallen Open Air (Switzerland), Frequency Festival (Austria) and Lollapalooza (Chicago & Berlin).  After almost two years on tour, the trio travelled back to their home countries to bond with family and reclaim energy and inspiration for their second album “HorseheadBay”.
