Handsome Tours, Astral People, and triple j are thrilled to announce that UK rap phenomenon Stormzy will be returning to Australian shores for an epic national tour in 2020. Having announced his upcoming album Heavy Is The Head, out December 13, Stormzy will perform his biggest shows to date in Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne & Brisbane this coming May.

The announcement follows a whirlwind year for Stormzy around the globe, which has seen him headline Glastonbury Festival and appear on the cover of Time Magazine. The visit represents Stormzy’s first national run of Australian headline performances since his 2017 tour, which saw him sell out two Enmore Theatres in Sydney, two Forums in Melbourne, Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide and Metro City in Perth — not to mention his unforgettable appearance at Splendour In The Grass.

The tour will celebrate his soon-to-be-released sophomore album, Heavy Is The Head — executively produced entirely by Stormzy himself; showcasing his world-class lyricism and musicality alongside many of his celebrated and relatable subject matters. The album also features additional vocals from some of the most exciting musicians of this generation all of whom have been hand-picked by Stormzy including, (alphabetical order) Aitch, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran, Headie One, H.E.R., Tiana Major9 and YEBBA with production from Fred Gibson, Fraser T Smith, T-Minus and others.

Hailing from Croydon (London), Stormzy has become one of music’s most impactful British artists of the decade. Since rising with his viral freestyle YouTube video “Shut Up”, which still holds one of the most-streamed songs in his discography, Stormzy has gone on to release the highly acclaimed debut LP Gang, Signs & PRAYER in 2017. The first grime album to ever reach UK number one on the UK Albums Chart,Gang, Signs & Prayers also won British Album of the Year in 2018 and was named triple j feature album. A record that represents Stormzy’s raw authenticity and a vivid journey through soul, gospel and grime, Gang, Signs & PRAYER elevated the rapper to a new level of fame. Since the release, Stormzy has worked with fellow grime heavyweights Giggs, Tinie Tempah, and the exceptional British vocalist Jorja Smith to name a few. One of his biggest collaborations to date is with fellow British singer Ed Sheeran and Afrobeats star Burna Boy on their latest single “Own It” out last week, which has already seen support from triple j.

Stormzy’s rare blend of swagger and authentic storytelling through his songs has been the winning formula which has allowed him to connect with audiences all over the world. Since his breakthrough, Stormzy has been recognised for his amazing talents having won a multitude of awards including an Ivor Novello, two Brit Awards, six MOBO Awards, two GQ Awards as well as being nominated for a Mercury Prize and NME Award. Once an underdog in the game but now a true frontrunner, Stormzy has played at some of the biggest festivals in Australia and abroad including Listen Out, Field Day, Outlook (CRO) and Wireless (UK) to name a few. However, this year marked a historic moment for the British rapper at Glastonbury Festival. The first black solo British artist to headline the acclaimed festival on the Pyramid Stage wearing a custom-made Banksy bullet-proof vest, Stormzy’s monumental set brought to the stage the likes of notable figures Dave and Fredo, signifying how far British rap music has come in the industry.

Proving himself to be one of the leading artists of his generation, Stormzy has become much more than a mere MC and musician. One who is always giving back to his community, the British rapper’s passion for education triggered him to create the ‘Stormzy Scholarship’ in partnership with Cambridge University; designed to help young students from minority backgrounds who have earned a place at the prestigious institution. Outside of music, Stormzy’s love for literature has materialised into creating Merky Books in collaboration with Penguin Random House UK as well as working in partnership The Good Literary Agency to promote stories that aren’t being heard.

Stormzy’s realness and encouragement to ‘Speak Your Truth’ has given grime a deservedly platform which has now transcended onto a global scale, resulting in Stormzy being one of the greatest artists in UK history. Returning to Australia this May 2020 and an album about to drop on December 13, Stormzy is set for a sell-out tour.
