The anticipation surrounding the forthcoming album from Melbourne’s savage three-piece Cable Ties just cranked up a notch with the release of second single, ‘Self-Made Man’, taken from the band’s imminent record, Far Enough

A boiling serve of potent political commentary from vocalist and guitarist Jenny McKechnie and punctuated by Nick Brown and Shauna Boyle’s razor-sharp rhythm section, ‘Self-Made Man’ serves as an astute reflection of society’s admiration for the self-made man, who insists he has made his wealth through hard work and perseverance, but in fact, has acquired his wealth through the exploitation of his workers and those he considers beneath him. According to Jenny, one usually knows when they’ve crossed paths with the archetypal figure at the heart of the track.

“The Self-Made Man created wealth through the exploitation of other people and abuse of public resources,” says Jenny. “He doesn’t care about the suffering of others because — in his eyes — he got what he deserved through hard work, and they have not. It is inconvenient for the Self-Made Man to analyse systems of oppression which he has manipulated for his own gain. Those things are just a distraction from hard work and getting what you want.”

Arriving alongside the new single is the Oscar O’Shea directed video, which features performances from both the band and members of their community.  To celebrate the release of Far Enough, Cable Ties are heading out on a national tour throughout April and May, hitting up venues in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Port Kemblar, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Fremantle and Brisbane.

Far Enough is available now for pre-order via www.poisoncityestore.com.
