Guitar, saxophone, huge songwriting and a voice that won him a 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Singer, Ian Sherwood brings the light to every stage he stands on. Australian fans are now set to see why, with Sherwood announcing an Australian tour around the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Blue Mountains Music Festival, including a night in Melbourne and Geelong.
A born story teller and a constant creator, his music dances the line between folk and pop. His live performances thrive on intimacy. Whether it’s a theatre show or large festival stage, his persona is irresistible and completely destroys fourth walls. Sherwood released his stunning new single “Coyotes In The Yard” on 28th February.
Sherwood explains “Coyotes In The Yard was inspired by a time we spent in a 200 year old farm house in Nova Scotia, Canada with two other families. During the day our kids would run around like wild animals exploring the land and getting skinned knees. At night we could hear the coyotes wander onto the field by the house and call out as they made their way to the other side and back into the forrest.Ultimately, the song is about the melancholy brought on by the natural passage of time and the way in which we are forcing our world into a direction of turmoil and irreversible change.”
When not touring the UK, US or all across Canada, Sherwood produces for other artists as well as for theatre, film and television. He was named Best Male Artist of the Year by the 2012 International Acoustic Music Awards and was the 2008 and 2010 Music Nova Scotia Musician Of The Year. Bob Mersereau of CBC Radio, Fredericton described him as “a natural performer who entertains as much with his wit and stories as with his songs.”
Produced by Ian himself, and mixed and mastered by Chris Kirby and J. LaPointe, the new track features Becca Guilderson and Vanessa Furlong on backing vocals. Sherwood is set to release his sixth studio record in October 2020, with his first taste sure to excite fans.

Top 5 Canadian Festivals
Frostbite Festival – Yukon, Canada
Just like it sounds, this festival takes place in the deep, dark (literally) days of winter in Whitehorse Yukon. It’s an experience you have to have at least once to really appreciate the great Canadian north.
Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Nova Scotia Canada
Lunenburg has been a big supporter of my music from day one and I always love going back to play this festival and / or events they hold throughout the year. Good food, good times and postcard-perfect coastal town of Lunenburg isn’t a hard place to hang out in (it’s also the home of the famous Bluenose)
Blue Skies Festival, Ontario Canada
Blues Skies is truly musician’s festival – an excellent jam, really relaxed atmosphere and an all around great party! And for bonus points – this festival has been garbage-free since 2015.
Festival of Small Halls – PEI & Ontario, Canada
As you have your own Small Halls Fest in Australia, folks will know just how great these events can be. I love the intimate and sometimes unusual venues. One that I played in Ontario only had an outhouse … so that was interesting …ha.. but the volunteers at these events make incredible meals from scratch and treat you like a king.. plus the audiences are thrilled to have music in their often otherwise, under-used community spaces so they are always enthusiastic and friendly. It’s the best.
Mariposa Festival, Orillia ON
Ok, this is kind of cheating because I haven’t played it yet but I’m on the bill for July 2020 and I already know that it’s going to be a highlight for me. I’ve wanted to play this one for awhile. Mariposa has been around since the sixties and has hosted some incredible musicians over the years including greats like Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, John Hiatt, Tracy Chapman and the list just keeps going. I’m chuffed to be part of this classic Canadian festival in 2020.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
