Off the back of an extraordinary triple j Like A Version this morning, Melbourne’s G FLIP (Georgia Flipo) is delighted to reveal a string of regional Australian tour dates. Taking in venues across Torquay, Castlemaine, Newcastle and Cairns, the tour also includes stops in Darwin and Alice Springs for One Tropical Day, where she’ll play alongside Hilltop Hoods. This morning G Flip covered ‘Lady Marmalade’ for triple j’s Like A Version (watch here + images here) and performed the yet to be officially released, ‘Hyperfine’, after posting a live demo to her socials last week, which received a massive response from fans (watch here).
Speaking of the performance, G Flip says: “I’ve been thinking about doing Like A Version for the majority of my life. I’ve always been a Triple J listener and it was a long term dream to play my own Like A Version.
I’ve been making a shortlist of songs for years including the idea of playing Lady Marmalade with a large band so when Triple J asked me to play Like A Version 2 days before International Women’s Day it felt right to pick Lady Marmalade and get some of my most boss women friends to join me.
International Women’s Day is a day to bring together and celebrate women. My cover is a culmination of exactly that. It felt right to gather some of my very talented female buddies and smash out this song together.”
Having previously sold out all four headline Australian tours to date and with over 86 million streams globally, a refreshed G Flip is showing no signs of slowing down. In 2019, her debut album About Us landed at #6 on the ARIA Album Chart, #1 on the Vinyl Chart and scored feature album on triple j. G received three ARIA Award nominations for Best Independent Release, Breakthrough Artist and Best Video. She also scored four places (#6 ‘Drink Too Much’, #58 ‘Lover’, #66 ‘Stupid’, #77 ‘I Am Not Afraid’) in this year’s triple j Hottest 100, was the #4 most played artist on the station and her widely acclaimed debut LP was voted #2 by listeners in the triple j Album Poll of 2019. The mammoth year also saw Flipo’s breakout single ‘About You’ receive gold accreditation while both ‘Killing My Time’ and ‘Drink Too Much’ have gone platinum.
