Praise for ‘YOU BE THE LIGHTNING’

“’You Be the Lightning is her most realised and well executed to date…steeped so strongly in a sound that references Fleetwood Mac, Gram Parsons all the while pure McNeil…proof of her standing as a world class songwriter.”   – Chris Familton, THE MUSIC   ★★★★

“…it should be forever an essential chapter of Australian alt-country and one of the first truly great records of 2020.”   – Dan Condon, DOUBLE J

“McNeil’s performance is feisty and fragile, raw and confident, guided by Dan Parsons’ exceptional lead guitar (not to forget the highly talented band that is The GoodLife). Already a stand-out album for 2020.”   – Denise Hylands, STACK MAGAZINE

“Both McNeil and Parsons’ sensibilities owe a lot to ‘70s country rock and pop and here they realise Stevie Nicks’ dream of joining The Heartbreakers.  It’s all there on opening track ‘Highway Girl’ which unfolds like a sequel to Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’.”  – Martin Jones, RHYTHMS MAGAZINE

Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife have kicked off 2020 with a bang, following the February 14 release of Tracy’s long-awaited fifth album You Be the Lightning.

Featuring radio hits Not Like A Brother and Catch You, the stunning eleven-track album has struck a widespread chord of love and support with fans and media around the country.  McNeil’s first release through Cooking Vinyl Australia has seen You Be the Lightning pick up national airplay and Album of the Week features across Australia, with critics hailing the album as “an essential chapter of Australian alt-country and one of the first truly great records of 2020” (Double J)… “Already a stand-out album for 2020” (Stack) and  “steeped so strongly in a sound that references Fleetwood Mac, Gram Parsons all the while pure McNeil…proof of her standing as a world class songwriter” (The Music).

With a national band tour continuing in support of the record, and a three-month long Canadian tour commencing mid-year for McNeil and GoodLife guitarist/album co-producer Dan Parsons, comes news of an additional National tour support with Australian music icon James Reyne.

November 2019 saw Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife support James Reyne at The Corner Hotel (Melb) for his annual Melbourne Cup Eve show, leading to an invitation to join Reyne on his upcoming 40th Anniversary tour of ‘The Boys Light Up’. The tour will see the band hit theatres nationally this October/November.  Tracy says, “It’s an honour to be invited to join one of Australia’s iconic rock legends on his 40th Anniversary ‘Boys Light Up’ Tour. James and his band are an inspiration and a bunch of great people – this will be a tour to remember.”
