Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: The Weeknd ‘Blinding Lights’ – ‘Blinding Lights’ by The Weeknd makes it eight weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The Canadian artist was the musical guest on this week’s Saturday Night Live, where he performed ‘Blinding Lights’ and new track ‘Scared To Live’.

#2: Dua Lipa ‘Don’t Start Now’ – Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’ holds #2 for a tenth non-consecutive week. It joins Maroon 5’s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ (#2 Sept. ’11) at equal second for most weeks spent at #2 on the ARIA Singles Chart without hitting #1. The current record holder is The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ (#2 Dec. ’16), which spent twelve non-consecutive weeks at #2.

#5: Doja Cat ‘Say So’ – After storming into the Top Ten last week, Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’ moves up a further three spots this week and into the Top Five for the first time. The single has also become a Top Ten hit in the UK and New Zealand, and a Top 20 in the US. Her album Hot Pink has another new peak this week at #19.

#11: Benee Feat. Gus Dapperton ‘Supalonely’ – New Zealand artist Benee takes out a new Singles Chart peak as she hits #11 with ‘Supalonely’. Featuring American artist Gus Dapperton, the song comes from Benee’s second EP, Stella & Steve, which was released in November 2019. Benee first appeared on the chart with ‘Glitter’ (#21 Mar. ’20).

#12: SAINt JHN ‘Roses’ – As it notches up its fourth week in the Top 50, SAINt JHN’s ‘Roses’ climbs 18 spots to land a new peak at #12. The track hit #2 in the UK last week.

#17: Powfu ‘Death Bed’ – In its second week in the chart, Powfu’s ‘Death Bed’ jumps 15 spots to #17. Even before its official release, the track was a viral sensation, being streamed over 5 million times on SoundCloud and over 24 million views on YouTube. Since its official release in mid-February it has taken off on social media platform TikTok.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Lil Uzi Vert ‘Eternal Atake’ – American rapper Lil Uzi Vert takes out his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Eternal Atake. The Philadelphia artist’s second album comes three years on from his debut, Luv Is Rage 2 (#22 Sept. ’17), which went to #1 in the US. The album’s opening track, ‘Baby Pluto’ debuted at #48 on this week’s Singles Chart.

#5: Lauv ‘~how i’m feeling~’ – Releasing his debut album, ~how i’m feeling~, American singer-songwriter Lauv hits the Albums Chart Top 50 for the first time. The album includes the Troye Sivan-featured ‘I’m So Tired…’ (#11 Mar. ’19), the Anne-Marie-featured ‘F**k, I’m Lonely’ (#19 Aug. ’19) and the LANY-featured ‘Mean It’ (#42 Nov. ’19).

#27: Body Count ‘Carnivore’ – The IceT-fronted metal band Body Count take out a fourth Top 50 entry with Carnivore. The band’s seventh album comes three years on from Bloodlust (#12 Apr. ’17) and includes a cover of Motorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’. Evanescence’s Amy Lee and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta are among the guests on Carnivore.

#29: Jhené Aiko ‘Chilombo’ – Jhené Aiko scores her first chart entry in Australia with Chilombo. It’s the third album from the American singer-songwriter/rapper, the follow-up to 2017’s Trip. In 2016, Aiko and rapper Big Sean teamed up to release a self-titled album as Twenty88.

#30: G Flip ‘About Us’ – G Flip’s ARIA-nominated debut album About Usreturns to the Top 50 at #30. It comes on the back of the announcement of a run of dates in regional Australia during May.

#33: #1 Dads ‘Golden Repair’ – Melbourne’s #1 Dads make their debut Top 50 appearance as they release their third album Golden Repair. The project of Big Scary’s Tom Ianek, #1 Dads last released an album six years ago: 2014’s About Face. As #1 Dads, Ianek was nominated for Best Male Artist at the 2015 ARIA Awards.
