Love Police and Remote Control Records are pleased to announce Big Thief have rescheduled their Australian tour dates to March 2021. A Sydney show has also been announced for Friday 12 March at Enmore Theatre – tickets on sale next Wednesday 29th April at 9AM AEST. Tickets are still available for the Fremantle, Melbourne under 18s and Hobart shows. All other dates are sold out. Full dates listed below.

Last week the band released Demos Vol. 1 – Topanga Canyon, CA – Feb 2018, a collection of unreleased songs from the sessions that spurred U.F.O.F. and Two Hands. The demos are available to purchase with all proceeds benefiting Big Thief’s touring crew. Available to stream now, ‘Live Young Demo’ offers a taste of the collection. It opens with hypnotically repeating percussion and guitar, quietly blooming with Adrianne Lenker’s magnetic voice. Towards the track’s close, an interplay begins between the song and ambient drones and noises of unplaceable origin.

“We spent the month of February 2018 in a cabin in Topanga Canyon, California, recording 34 demos that were boiled down to become UFOF and Two Hands, and we’re bringing a handful into light now to share with everyone. We chose 5 of our favourites – none of which appear on any Big Thief records and a couple of which appear in different forms on Adrianne’s abysskiss. 100% of the funds we make from this release will go to our faithful road crew, whose income has been impacted by the disruption in our touring schedule. They are the lifeblood of the Big Thief shows and we care so deeply for each and every one of them.”

Stream / Purchase Demos Vol. 1 – Topanga Canyon, CA – Feb 2018 via Bandcamp.

In 2019 Big Thief released two critically acclaimed albums via 4AD / Remote Control Records. Two Hands“the earth twin” released in October followed on from the May release of U.F.O.F.“the celestial twin” – a universally beloved album described by Pitchfork as “a true masterpiece of folk music from a band working together at the highest level” and now nominated for a GRAMMY in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

While some have looked on in wonderment at this prolific band’s decision to release two substantial releases in the same year, the decision was, as with every decision the band makes, eminently intentional and deeply considered. Two Hands is a partner to U.F.O.F.

In Stereogum’s cover story on the band, Adrianne Lenker beautifully describes how the two albums connect and how they differ: “U.F.O.F. is meant to be more focused on the immeasurable, sort of suspended ethereal playing with textures and colours and layering in the production, staring out into the abyss. And Two Hands is more the micro, zooming into the blood and tissue and guts of being a human, the raw, bare, naked bones, not much layering, capturing just our performances in the room, just very dry, no reverbs, just skin and flesh and human, finite, physical. But I think each of them contains parts of the others.”
