JXN (Jackson Brazier) is unveiling his biggest project to date. Today the 26-year-old Melbourne up-and-comer shares his debut EP ‘NeverASadAdventure’, a hypnotic collection of R&B-tinged tracks that show his versatility and commitment to carving out a unique sound.

The sonic direction and “Outta Space” theme offers up a colourful metaphorical landscape for JXN to let his imagination run wild. He continues to extend the late-night Alt Pop aesthetic that he’s built steadily over the past year but goes even further experimenting with new tricks. Brazier says the EP is, “like nothing I’ve ever done before. I’ve always thought I wanted to be a versatile artist. I don’t want people to expect what I’m about to put out.”

Even though he’s only been releasing his original music for a little over a year, JXN’s made good on that statement. His confident discography showcases a cohesive Alt Pop backdrop while also exploring endless possibilities, having now clocked up over 10million global streams. Beginning with 2018’s simmering debut “Solitude”, he’s continued to grow while also working with an esteemed list of collaborators. “Red Lights” saw his team-up with rap giant A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and “Going Off” brought him together with A$AP Twelvvy. Meanwhile, “Just Okay” saw him go it alone, showing off his vulnerability as a songwriter.

Led by the single “Outta Space”, a collaboration with Australian rapper Allday and producer Fossa Beats, the track sets the tone of the project, introducing us to an otherworldly aesthetic that’s seen in everything from the lyrics to the weightlessness of the production.

Produced by Joe Mason, most of the songs on the EP came together over a fruitful two-day session which saw close to 10 songs penned, including second single STELLAR, an apt description of the project as a whole. He sings over a luscious backdrop of flourishing synths and detouring beats that transport you into a different world. “It’s quite a different sound,” adds Brazier, “There’s a lot of experimentation with vocal effects on the song – pitching up and down.”

That kind of openness to explore the capabilities of his vocal extends over the whole project. On opener TRIP, he sings the chorus in falsetto while on SKY, he experiments with a faster pace that borders on rapping. It’s the mark of an artist who is becoming adventurous with his own tools.

Elsewhere on the EP, there’s EARTHGANG which features an entirely manipulated, intoxicating chorus and PROUD which strips everything back more than ever before. The latter is the most personal song he’s ever written and one that he admits he’d never be able to have a guest voice on. His success in establishing a versatile sound early means that day one JXN fans will effortlessly follow him into this new world (or planet) that he’s designed.

A debut EP is a triumphant chapter for Brazier who has been dreaming of a music career since he was 13. Growing up in the Yarra Valley, he taught himself guitar from YouTube tutorials as a teen. At 17, he’d saved up enough to buy himself his first Maton guitar which led to him writing his own songs and uploading covers on YouTube. That venture gained him more than a million followers over YouTube and Instagram, pulling him firmly onto the spotlight before he had even dropped his debut single.

Now his achieved his life long goal of a music career, the creative juices are flowing fast. For now, though, we’re blasting into space with JXN and the ‘NeverASadAdventure’ EP.
