It’s funny how people will actively watch something new and try to relate to it in their own context. Finding anything tangibly familiar is key here to feel some sort of connection.
In walk ABOVE THE STEEL, the Adelaide duo who fortunately dish up nostalgic rootsy songs and rhythms in spades. Folk sounds trickle through the air followed by Blues songs which seem to evolve into thick blues and roots groove. Above The Steel definitely seem like they write from the heart and also pay homage to the musicians of yesteryear who paved the road for folk and blues. But now it seems with the likes of these two musicians and many others its equally important to move this musical heritage into the future.
The year 2020 has been called many things tragic, miserable, isolating; its also the year Above The Steel released their first self titled studio album. This first offering from the South Australian duo encompasses stories of life, Love, Parenthood and Tragedy. These are themes explored and expressed with acoustic melodies, rhythmic bass rhythms, groove orientated percussion and searing lap steel solos.
Ben Meinl is a musician who acts as a central powerhouse playing multiple instruments at once accompanied by Lucas Castle; who adds his own colour and warmth with acoustic and rhythmic melody.
Ben hails from the town of Mannum deep in the Murray Mallee region of SA whilst Lucas resides in Bridgewater high up in the mount lofty region of SA you could say that the band is definitely a creative result of the Hills meeting the plains with positive and creative results.
‘Writing songs needs to come from the heart, let’s embrace the good and the bad and express ourselves accordingly.’ L.Castle, Above The Steel.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
