After an exciting start to the year releasing the lead single “Crazy” from their forthcoming album, August River Band now following up with “In My Arms”. The track displays the culmination of talents that drew August River Band together, with the band explaining “We all love this song and a lot of each of our personalities went into it; the manic oscillation, the drive, the soaring heights”. Hailing from Brisbane, the band consists of Eev Ferreira and Gerard Kerr, with Lil Burrows contributing on the violin to the songwriting process and recording of the album. The band has the ability to instantly draw in listeners through their unique sound which offers a wild and beautifully juxtaposed chemistry between the tortured singer songwriter, the classically trained violinist and the hard hitting rock and roll drummer.
With established producer Paulie B (Ziggy Alberts, Bobby Alu) lending his skills on the band’s debut album, lead singer Eev Ferreira explains “In My Arms” shows the determination which is at the core of the band. “This was the first track I experimented with an odd time signature, when I started trying to sing over it it seems absolutely impossible, like trying to play tennis left handed, but I was determined to get it.” The track discusses the notion of wanting to be loved while simultaneously wanting to be alone, with Eev explaining “I have often found myself in scenarios where I knew I had succumb to the euphoria of my ego finding a stage upon which to do its dance. Knowing full well it will end in tears I embrace, kiss and swoon. I used to think that it was their hurt I feared but it was, in fact, my experience of their hurt that I feared.” The lyrics ‘I feed this love with discretion’ summarise the theme behind Ferreria’s songwriting, stating “my fear of this interaction leads me to suppress the attraction I feel in defence of my tower but during the era this song was written my ego overcame my rationale and relished in the attention.”
Playing a special set to a sellout crowd at The Milk Factory in February following the release of their single “Blue Light”, August River Band are bustling with excitement to have fans hear the album at another energetic live show. Stay tuned!
