Bursting from the scene of Melbourne are sister duo Franny and Zooey. For fans of Florence + The Machine and Kate Miller-Heidke, these girls with satisfy your pop cravings with their second single ‘Let The River Flow’.
The sisters’ classical roots have influenced their sound which is built upon complex piano arrangements, strong melody lines, and interwoven harmonies. Combined, these features work to create a unique and ethereal wash of sound that is intrinsic to Franny and Zooey’s music. They believe that music is a powerful tool connecting the human experience and they hope their music gives people an opportunity to reflect on and relate to the emotions and messages conveyed within their music.
Their latest single is a shockingly beautiful song, that cries out to end oppression and to speak out about injustice and inequality. This song was sparked in the spirit of anti-racism, which is a big topic that is often swept under the rug once the media hype has died down. It is a song that reminds us that we are all one in this world, that we are all the same despite the only difference being the pigment of our skin.

It begins with a beautiful melodic piano that brings a harrowing sound to the track, and you can feel chills running up and down your spine as their voices intertwine, creating a song so powerful and raw. You can feel the rise of anger as the song progresses, but rather than loud clanging sounds to create this feeling, they use powerful lyrics and a gradual build-up of instrumentation. It creates a sense of it growing in grandeur, leaving this lingering feeling of being unresolved, which perfectly demonstrates how anti-racism flows in our society; there is a big build-up but nothing changes, and it slips through the cracks until it strikes again.
‘Let The River Flow’ is about turning the tables, not letting the matter die down. It’s about speaking up for what you believe in and what is right. It’s about coming together and fighting together until it’s too hard to ignore. Franny and Zooey have eloquently displayed how we can put such a powerful message in a song, a message that can influence us to think more and be better. So it’s time to step up to the plate and not let this message die down like it has many times before.
