Do you remember the first time you heard your favourite Australian artist?
This month Double J are celebrating Australian artists’ first times by counting down the 50 Best Australian Debut Albums. Join us from 12pm on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September, as we bring you the definitive list.
In the meantime, here’s what we can tell you about the Top 50…
– The youngest artist on the list was 16 when they released their debut album; and the average age is 25-and-a-half years old. But proving that it’s never too late, the oldest artist to make the list released their debut album at 42 years of age!
– More than a quarter of the artists that made it into the list are from regional Australia…
– The oldest album in the list is from 1974, whilst the most recent is barely a year old
– Overall, the 00s were the strongest decade with 14 albums nabbing a spot in the Top 50
– One artist’s debut album landed them 6 songs in a single triple j Hottest 100
If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, read up on the blessings and curses of releasing a classic debut album as told by 5 Australian artists. Or watch Missy Higgins, The Cat Empire, Jebediah and more reflect on their first time.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
