Upcoming electronic music duo Pink Zinc today shares the official lyric video for their latest hit single ‘Weapon’ ft BOI.

This incredibly catchy up tempo dance track showcases the songwriting and production brilliance of these two boys hailing from the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Just days after the track was uploaded to triple j unearthed in August, ‘Weapon’ ft. BOI premiered on triple j breakfast with Sally & Erica, with a little help from Dave Ruby Howe. The song ‘blew up’ the triple j text line and sent it shooting up the unearthed charts to #9.

The up tempo feel good track features electro-pop artist BOI, who has conquered the stages of festivals like Splendour in the Grass as a feature vocalist for LDRU and has performed/worked with artists like Alice Ivy, Super Cruel, Alex Lahey, TORA, The Chainsmokers, Godlands and Devin Abrams.

Of collaborating with BOI the Pink Zinc duo say ”We’ve been mates with BOI for a long time, so we’re stoked to finally have a song out together ‘Weapon’ started out as a slow-yacht-rock jam in BOI’s garage on a 40 degree day in Newcastle. However, after a few cold beverages it morphed into something else…”

Pink Zinc have been pinpointed as one to watch since the release of their debut single ‘AIR CON’ earlier in 2020. The single garnered a 5-star review from The Aston Shuffle, who labelled it a ‘hella catchy – tech monster’, and received airplay on triple j and unearthed.

Pink Zinc have previously worked with Sidney Swift (Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne), Kevin Wild (Diplo, Skrillex, Steve Aoki), Nicole Millar, May-a, Tyron Hapi, BRUX and Tyde Levi among others.

Pink Zinc have joined Amnplify for a Q&A to discuss their musical background and future aspirations.

How did you all find each other and decide to share your musical talents as a group?
We met in a McDonalds drive thru lane. He was playing Kendrick and i was playing ABBA so it was a perfect match!

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
We’re trying to make dance floor bangers with relatable lyrics, so hopefully that resonates!

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
There are millions. But i was listening to Gordi today, and she writes absolutely amazing tunes, so i’ll say Gordi :)

Your new single ‘Weapon’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
It started in a garage in Newcastle on a stinking hot day with us and Boi just trying to write a tune.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Definitely, but nothing solid yet – but we’re piecing together tunes atm.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Daft Punk would be cool. Maybe they can control the decks and we could just bring the hype.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a band?
To make music that people can really boogie too and to tour the world playing as many big shows as possible!

What’s been your career highlight so far?
We’ve only released music during Covid :( so haven’t been able to spread it around much, but for us our highlights have all been in the studio finding the hooks.
