Sydney-based artist Jess Kent today makes her triple j Like A Version debut, performing a cover of Bakar’s “Hell N Back” alongside original and recent Parking Karma EP cut, “No One Else” out now via OURNESS.

After the recent celebrated release of her second EP, Jess Kent steps into the triple j studio with her band, featuring Dave Jenkins Jr on bass, Lachy West on drums, Ben Corbitt on guitar and keys & Lana Sayah on backing vocals to perform British song-writer Bakar’s soul-inflected hit “Hell N Back”. Taking inspiration from Jet and Amy Winehouse, Jess adds her undeniably sunny and playful twist of attitude on the soulful original. Next up, Kent shares her earlier EP single, “No One Else” bringing its pop and R&B pastiche of captured devotion into the live realm. Go Behind The Scenes of Jess’ Like A Version, as she breaks down how the cover came together.

Jess on Like A Version: “This is probably one of the most exciting milestones in my career so far! I’ve had my list of songs ready, just in case triple j asked me to do this. I chose Bakar’s Hell N Back because I love his lyricism and swag but with a live band feel, so I wanted to capture that in my version but put my own spin on it. Thanks to my amazing band – I’m so stoked with how it turned out! Hoping people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it all together. “

Treating fans to more live music, Jess recently announced her first live shows of 2020. Performing her Parking Karma EP and revisiting her back catalogue of bops, Jess will take to The Vanguard in Sydney on Friday, November 20 for two sessions and officially introduce her new musical chapter to the world.

Produced by Dave Hammer (Lime Cordiale, JEFFE, Mia Rodriguez), Kent’s Parking Karma EP sees Jess embrace her clever songwriting finesse across five tracks, as she takes on a cheeky electro-pop persona and lands among Australia’s best left-field innovators with a career-defining record of multi-style serenic anthems that’s picked up love from triple j, community radio and tastemakers including NME, Sniffers and Pilerats.

Jess Kent’s musical influences have spanned the globe, born in the UK to a blues rock guitarist and African-Indian mother, before relocating to Australia aged 11. Gaining a start from busking the streets of Adelaide, Kent soon moved to Sydney and was immersed in the thriving scene that awaited there, shaping her multi-million streamed debut single “Get Down” before rising to an affirming debut EP, My Name Is Jess Kent. Kent has performed on the stages including Splendour in the Grass, Field Day and Laneway Festival, and worked in studios with the likes of producer Justin Tranter (Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez).

Just as Parking Karma is an esteeming nod to Jess’ talented artistry and livewire hybrid-pop essence, Kent’s triple j Like A Version debut today confirms her realness and inspiring demeanour that keep her performances so irresistible to watch. Don’t miss out on your chance to experience the Jess Kent live experience this November.
