Pulling no punches.

R-Cue had humble beginnings as a DJ covering house parties for his friends in 2013. Fast forward a couple of years and and in 2015, R-Cue became the official DJ on the Ciara Tour. The next few years were eventful as R-Cue opened for some of today’s biggest acts – Jason Derulo (2016), Drake (2018) and Jacques (2019). R-Cue was building quite a resume. In 2020, R-Cue continued to impress with a huge 10 Country Tour where he played in some of the DJ Mag Top 100 clubs. To show that performing is just one of his attributes, R-Cue also produced 4 high quality tracks in 2020. When you are a fan of this man there is always plenty to keep you entertained.

R-Cue has completely changed the shape of modern RnB and EDM with his unique and infectious style. After making a massive splash on the scene in 2018 with his uplifting debut single “Like I Do”, it’s fair to say that R-Cue’s musical talent is undeniable, seamlessly blending elements of RnB and EDM with powerful beats and fresh melodies. R-Cue’s distinct sound has certainly carved out a niche for him in the short few years since he began his musical journey, and “Take You Down” exemplifies what he does best perfectly.

Coming in swinging with an energetic and powerful sound, R-Cue outdoes his previous output in what might be the catchiest single of the year. “Take You Down” wastes no time in establishing an incredibly catchy groove, immediately hammering an addictive bassline into your head (and when I say addictive, I really mean it). Seriously, this bass line won’t leave your head for days; it’s so simple yet so effective that you almost wonder how nobody ever came up with it before. The percussion is also stellar here, driving the energy of the song and providing a great amount of “pop” to the sound. The combination of claps, high hats and a boomy kick is one that is often prone to sounding generic, however R-Cue maintains just enough variation and dynamics to keep things fresh and interesting, changing up the beat slightly or dropping it out completely every few bars. Paired with this are excellent performances from guest vocalists Rydah and JaRay, who together offer the perfect mix of smooth, flowing rap and beautiful, catchy vocal hooks.

Perhaps the best thing that can be said about “Take You Down” though is the way it perfectly balances a high energy and badass sound with beautiful yet catchy pop melodies. One minute you’ll be banging your head to the heavy beat and rapping that make up the verses, the next you can’t help but sing along as velvety smooth vocals envelop your ears. Putting the final cherry on the cake is the excellent production, elevating “Take You Down” to another level with upfront and clear vocals, great bass clarity, a punchy kick, and crisp percussion.

In need of a catchy jam to blast in your car on the way home from work? Look no further. R-Cue has hit another one out of the park with what could just be the best club oriented hip hop song of the year, taking and improving on his already well established sound.
