Two months ago Bella Ferraro broke her seven year hiatus with the hypnotic ‘Her’ which re-introduced the Sydney-born, Manchester-based artist to listeners in a confident and experimental new light. Following in its footsteps, her intoxicating new single ‘Believe You’ (OUT NOW) proves why she has returned for good. With its high-energy rhythms and aggressively funky baseline, this unexpectedly invigorating sound from Ferraro will undoubtedly grab your attention.

Lyrically expressing an internal contention, she articulates the tensions ensued when a fifteen-year friendship becomes fraught with suspicion and doubt.

“‘Believe You’ came about very quickly,” Ferraro explains. “I was sitting in my shower, brooding over an upcoming trip to Japan with my best friend, and realising that I didn’t even want to go anymore. Strangely, from the minute we’d purchased our flights, the dynamics in our friendship began to shift. In the months leading up to our departure, it became very clear to me how much we were growing apart. In figuring out how to address my feelings with her, I ended up writing the bulk of ‘Believe You’ in that shower.”

Having its first airplay on Hype On Demand With Gem on The Edge 96.1 and iHeartRadio last week before then premiering online on Pilerats, the song has already drawn huge praise and comparisons to the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen with Pilerats saying “being very Carly Rae Jepsen-like in its ability to turn a moment of ache into a soaring, confident pop song that really feels triumphant”.

Demonstrating an artistic vision beyond music, the cover art for this new single furthers the story behind it. Designed by Brisbane-based artist Nat Popovski, the pair of heels, widely worn by sex workers, reveals another meaning behind the song and offers listeners a further clue about Ferraro’s endeavours away from the music industry.

‘Believe You’ is the predecessor for Bella’s highly anticipated debut EP, scheduled for release in early 2021. Co-produced by Sydney favourites Zepha and WCB, and mastered by Ben Feggans at Studios 301, ‘Believe You’ is a fun, intoxicating, and fiery track that beckons for the repeat button.
