ISOL-AID MUSIC FESTIVAL #32
Saturday 31st October 2020

A socially (media) distanced music festival

Feat (in alphabetical order):

BUDJERAH, GYM AND SWIM (TH), HORSE PLANET POLICE DEPARTMENT (ID), JACKMANN, MIA WRAY, PAIGE BLACK, PYRA (TH), RURU (PH), SILICA GEL (KR), WEDANCE (KR)

They say no rest for the wicked, but we had a wicked rest last week just in time to stage our epic comeback with ISOL-AID #32. The Grand Final has been and gone and the world is still spinning so we figured it was time we set our sights on some incredible acts from a couple of blocks of sea away in South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines for the ‘FOCUS ASIA’ edition of Isol-Aid in the first portion of the festival this week.

‘Focus Asia’ will be lovingly curated by HIGHJINKX – an independent live music promotion company based in Seoul, South Korea. Highjinkx is a diverse team of music lovers of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds who are dedicated to live music and epic live experiences for fans of emerging and established talent from not just Korea but around the world. Thankfully the crew at Highjinkx have handpicked a selection of said talent for this week and we are so pumped!

Kicking things off will be HORSE PLANET POLICE DEPARTMENT (ID) – a genre-defining quartet who make anthems of youth reality and urban escapism in versatility – this will be a particularly special joyride to set it off. SILICA GEL (KR) released their critically acclaimed self titled LP in 2016 and swept up big time at the Korean Music Awards by taking home accolades like “Rookie Of The Year”. Their own brand of psychedelica and explosive energy has made them one of the top live acts from the new wave of Korean independent music. We know this will translate to their on-screen performance and will be particularly special. WEDANCE (KR) – the duo that lives up to their name. A band difficult to describe but with a mission statement “help people dance through their boundaries and to experience life fully on the other side”. Indietronic art rock from a couple of musical alchemists – this is going to be a fun trip. PYRA’s (TH) dystopian pop has its roots in alternative and hip hop with touches of Asian influence. The singer-producer has been making waves after signing to Warner Music who will be releasing her upcoming music produced by Grammy-nominated Sean Hamilton.

RURU (PH) is the alter-ego of a multi-faceted, Manila-based artist. The 21 year old artist’s career has been expanding at a rapid pace with experimental fusions of baroque cellos, stone-cold strumming guitars and hazy synths. GYM AND SWIM (TH) are a Bangkok-based tropical pop band who are known for their live, playful performances. Mixing electronics, dynamic drums & a tropical vibe the band’s easy-to-hum sounds will captivate your attention.

After our trip across Asia we dip back home for the final portion of this week’s ISOL-AID and we meet up with JACKMANN – the moniker of Melbourne musician Kris Schroeder of The Basics, Jackmann is the solo project of this musical gun. A combination of sounds and visions steeped in magical guitars and a 70s influence, this performance will be a delight to witness. BUDJERAH is an 18 year old singer-songwriter from Fingal Head in NSW. Budjerah is a Coodjinburra boy from the Budjalung nation who writes about family, culture and friends. Music that is brimming with soul – the sound jumps off the page. PAIGE BLACK is a soulful singer raised in the hills of the Yarra Valley whose bittersweet and candid storytelling takes listeners on a journey like no other. MIA WRAY is a rising Australian musician who has been garnering attention for her soulful sound. A brilliant end to a special ISOL-AID, we can’t wait to share our screens and souls with yas!

We love that our festival is free to watch, but we do ask online attendees to help support the artists if you can. 100% of whatever you donate will go directly to the Isol-Aid artists and their teams.

As you know, the loss of touring and live performance income has caused financial strain and even strife for many in our music community. Throwing in even what you’d normally pay for a beer or two at the show will make a huge difference to these acts. And we’ll be eternally grateful, too!

You can look good and feel amazing. Artist donations, merch and feel good vibes from isolaidfestival.com
