Today, Australia’s new voice in contemporary soul-pop, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Akosia shares her newest single and video, “Speechless”.

A divinely positive infusion of R&B and soul, “Speechless” explores the euphoric and untouchable highs of love through Akosia’s honest songwriting. Produced by Jerome Farah, whose past resume of work includes Baker Boy’s “Meditjin” and Kian’s breakout hit “Waiting”, “Speechless” captures the joys of new and deepened romance through the lightness and Sade-inspired magic of Akosia’s vocals.

Akosia on “Speechless”: “If you’ve ever been deeply in love, you’re familiar with its bliss. I wrote ‘Speechless’ when I was honestly enchanted, almost engulfed by this feeling. I felt untouchable, like the world was completely open to me. I wanted to share this feeling in a way that people can connect to. ‘Speechless’ seduces. It pulls you back to the moment you first felt the intoxication of love. It will engulf you, it will take your breath away.”

Premiered via Acclaim, a captivating visual matches the narrative of extreme highs and lows in love. From life’s big moments, to unexpected tragedy, the video for “Speechless” directed by Ntombi Moyo, sees Akosia with an impressive vision and performed emotion as she plays out her relationship on screen.

Akosia on the video: “I experienced a major loss during the developmental phase of the video and wanted to express how fear crept into my life through the visuals. I am a huge sci-fi fan and a little bit obsessed with the film ‘Arrival’, so I paid homage to it through metaphoric storytelling and a plot that explores the cyclical nature of time and the lengths we go to for love.”

Raised in the suburbs of Melbourne by her Ghanaian parents, Akosia has been writing for as long as she can remember. Her parents’ love for music, literature and passion for teaching inspired Akosia to explore her work through poetry, and as she continued to put feelings to paper, the singer-songwriter honed her vulnerable and emotive writing style and vocal power. Long inspired by the lyrical prowess of Maya Angelou and Billy Chapata, as well as the music of Sade and Miles Davis, Akosia’s eclectic and melodic harmonies are uniquely her own as she navigates pairing meaningful storytelling with soulful sensuality.

After releasing her debut single, “Don’t Say” in 2019, Akosia has been co-signed by Tones and I in the recent Victoria Together initiative, The State Of Music, and performed alongside peers including Soju Gang and Mai at the Blue Black Beats Festival from Melbourne’s Immigration Museum.

Harbouring a musical patchwork of influences, “Speechless” is equally dynamic visually as it is sonically.
