Today is Musicians Making A Difference Day, or #MMAD Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness about the incredible work of youth charity Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD), and enlisting the help of Australians to inspire more young people in need through the power of music.
The day aims to create a chain of music making a difference online so that young people who may be experiencing adversity will feel a sense of community and find strength to rise above personal challenges. Every young person deserves to know they are not alone and that there are people who care.
The campaign is encouraging everyone to:
Post lyrics or a song that could give young people hope
Share this year’s MMAD Day anthem ‘I’m On A Wave’, written for youth by young survivors of childhood adversity
Tag @MMADAustralia and #MMADday to create a chain of positive change
“MMAD Day has changed my life. The day showed me that I wasn’t alone. It’s the best day for young people who have been struggling – by sharing song lyrics that helped you through some difficult times, you could help another young person feeling the same way.” April, MMAD young person
Young people who come to MMAD face a range of issues such as mental illness, homelessness, family breakdown, bullying, exclusion from school, drug and alcohol abuse and suicidal ideation. A growing issue among young people, recent modelling suggesting a possible increase of 25% in the youth suicide rate, just in 2020 alone.
Now in its sixth year, the MMAD Day campaign is built with young people from MMAD who have journeyed through the charity’s mentoring programs and are now in a position to give back as a voice for other vulnerable young people.
Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD) and Universal Music Australia provide ten young people with a once-in-a-lifetime year-long industry mentorship including writing, recording and releasing the single, with a purpose to create positive change and raise support for the important cause.

The program empowers MMAD’s young people to gain invaluable experience working alongside the industry’s best, with one of the 2020 mentees noting, “This has been a life changing experience. It has opened my eyes to the power of the music industry and allowed me to help bring a national music campaign to life that will hopefully connect with other young people going through a hard time, like I was. MMAD is about helping people know they are not alone, showing them that there are people there who believe in them and using music to break down barriers so that the message gets through.”
Despite COVID restrictions, the ten participants collaborated virtually with artists including ARIA Award nominee super producer Alice Ivy who helped shape the lyrics and production ideas for the track. ‘I’m On A Wave’ is a summer feel-good infectious groove featuring singer/songwriter and The Voice finalist Zeek Power that speaks to overcoming personal challenges, making changes and riding the wave to inspire personal and social change.
MMAD Day merchandise designed with the young mentees include a t-shirt, cap and bucket hat that feature the MMAD rainbow mascot as a symbol of hope and happiness. The range is available to purchase via the MMAD website.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
