“Liar Liar’ sees the four-piece capture the glory of 2000s indie rock (an era that gets nowhere near the praise it deserves) and put a gorgeous 2020 spin on it, busting out some wicked guitars and slaughtering drums, all overflowing with golden rowdiness” – LIFE WITHOUT ANDY
“Crashing onto the music scene with their raucous melodies and infectious rhythms, MID CITY is back with “Good For It”” – NOTION
“A fiery piece of alt-rock.. ‘Liar Liar’ sees Mid City bursting out of the gate with a furious example of why they’ve kept fans engaged for so long” – ROLLING STONE
“With an anthemic chorus and indie-rock sensibilities, ‘Liar Liar’ boasts a big energy.” – NME
“Carries out this loud dance-like melody that shoots back and forth through the song with hard drum beats” – GET SOME MAG

Melbourne Indie-Rockers MID CITY have today released their much-anticipated sophomore EP Wishing For The Best, a body of work that flourishes in a narrative landscape that explores the human condition in all its beauty and imperfections.
The band has built its foundation on monstrous, uplifting choruses and melodies, and is the result of a strong partnership between chief songwriters Joel Griffith and Ben Woodmason.
“I trust him more in his vision for things, because of the time we’ve spent together,” Joel says. “I think that self-assuredness is what we’re trying to get to come through in the songs, but it’s a reflection of that maturing. The longer we go, the more I’m appreciating that everybody starts to believe in themselves, believe in the band and believe in each other. The best music comes from that.”
Wishing For The Best is MID CITY at their most furious, most eager and at a particular peak of the band’s powers. Anthemic energy is at its core, starting from record opener ‘Liar Liar’, reaching numerous peaks throughout before wrapping tightly with its closer, ‘You Can’t Know Why’.
It is an EP that perfectly encapsulates the band’s thrill for live performance and with 2020 putting everyone into a forced period of retreat, it has simply re-instilled the love for music that has driven Mid City since their inception. “We exist to re-energise people to rock music that would otherwise find it a little bit staid,” Joel says. MID CITY’s EP Wishing For The Best does just that.
The work MID CITY have done in realising a natural arc of storytelling and songwriting through this EP is an effort they all take pride in. Ben adds, “in terms of the tracks coming together as one, I’m a little surprised at how well they fit together, just because when we were writing we weren’t necessarily thinking about a collective of tunes. Until hearing them back as one, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out, but now I think it’s a really great snapshot of where we’re at. We’re super proud of it.”
Alongside the EP, MID CITY has also released the new clip for the standout single ‘Good For It’. Premiered through Notion, the clip is a self-portrait that features the band members’ closeups layered to create an honest and emotive visual metaphor.
Of the video, Joel Griffiths writes “COVID’s been a b*tch for everyone here in Victoria. But not even a deadly global pandemic will stop this MID CITY train. Four guys, four bedrooms, one surprisingly delicate iso-inspired clip for you. In a funny, fateful way, isolation was a blessing. It forced us to stand back from the day-to-day hustle, turn inward and create something that reflected the outcast and heartbroken vibes of both the song and our time together/apart this year. Who knew a big, brash rock band could be so introspective? Not us.”

With translating their live energy into their music at the band’s core it was only natural that as soon as possible the band would hit the road to tour their newest work.
Having today also announced a run of live dates Joel writes “Never in the history of up-start rock n roll bands has a group of people been this excited to get back to what they do best. One year away is an eternity in music and we intend to make up for every second of lost time with all the blood, sweat and happy tears we can muster”.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
