Womadelaide Day 3 was a day for some incredibly talented young musicians to shine. Starting with Miiesha, a proud indigenous Australian woman, merely 20 years of age, hailing from central Queensland. She set a commanding presence on stage, supported by two backing vocalists, drummer & keys player. Her songs told the story of her people and community with the power and conviction of an old soul. She used her performance at Womadelaide to showcase songs from her hugely successful debut album ‘Nyaaringu’, which was released in 2020. She gave a stellar performance.

Melbourne-based Kaiit previously performed at Womadelaide in 2019 and has performed at several other major festivals around the country. At only 23 years of age, Kaiit has a charming ‘doll-like’ persona on stage, oozing with innocence and endearment. Jazz and soul influence her music and is the background for her amazingly strong, confident voice. Kaiit was joined on stage by two guitarists, drummer and trumpet/keys player who gave her performance a solid band sound.

Tash Sultana needs no introduction. This mini 25-year-old powerhouse has more worldwide accolades than you can count. I have experienced many Tash Sultana gigs now, but this debut Womadelaide performance outshone the rest. The stage design was incredible with everything placed strategically so she could race around from one point to another, gabbing new instruments, fiddling with knobs to create loops, and command her live production on the fly. Two side stage mini platforms gave her elevated height. The images screened behind her added a psychedelic richness, which did not detract from her amazing musicianship, but rather enhanced the sound. I lost count of the number of instruments she played, but it is her ability to create a rich studio sound in the live stage environment, which is truly astounding. The energy she creates on stage is incredibly infectious, and her facial expressions clearly show that she is having the time of her life. Her set list showcased songs from both full length albums ‘Flow State’ and her new release “Terra Firma’. She stated that she was thrilled to be playing in front of a large live audience again and promised to return to Adelaide as soon as she could. Please do Tash.
