The traffic was heavy, and the rain was pouring on Friday night in Brisbane and deep in the valley a storm was brewing from within The Brightside. On their first show back in Brisbane since Covid set in to stay, RedHook were back to remind everyone in attendance how kick-ass they really are. Fresh off the release of their new E.P ‘Bad Decisions’ and after the long story circumstance that saw the Sydney locals pull out of their last booked Brisbane show just hours before the commencement, it felt that RedHook came to make it up to their QLD fans. And succeeded beautifully with an amazing set worthy of the Riverstage within the small halls of the Brightside.

Bringing along two local support acts Skies Collide and All Hours it was a full card of female fronted rockers that blew the roof off the joint. Both Supporting acts bringing their own style to warm up the crowd and by the reaction of the people in the place, very well received indeed.

Then came RedHook and boy they came with a vengeance and were here to party with their Brisbane fans take away the disappointment of their last scheduled Brisbane show. Playing a mix of their old and new music their set went through a deep repertoire from heart felt ballads like their new track ‘Alien’ to the hard-hitting heavy stuff like their latest single ‘Kamikaze’ which they performed with guest vocalist Callen Batson of Days Like These. Throwing it back to the early singles with playing ‘Paralysed’ and ‘Turn up the Stereotype’ took the crowd back to the small beginnings for the band and showed the progression of how far they have come since then. I thoroughly enjoyed their set choices as they only missed one of their early released tracks and rocking each track from the new E.P. They had lots of little cover interludes that got the crowd riled up, such as their ‘You Know How I Feel – Michael Buble’ segue into ‘Paralysed’ or the ‘STALL THE CROWD’ interlude of ‘We Will Rock You – Queen’ was very fun to hear and sing along to. Wrapping up the set with the title track from the new record ‘Bad Decisions’ with the help of the Guys and Gals from Skies Collide and All hours, then in their words ‘without the annoying go off stage and awkwardly wait for the crowd to start chanting ONE MORE SONG!’ they burst into their cover of ‘Guerrilla Radio – Rage Against the Machine’ to close out the show with a bang.

Some highlights from the show were when the band threw out pillows to the crowd and encouraged a big pillow fight in the pit, during their new track ‘I Don’t Keep Up’ guitarist Craig busting an incredible saxophone solo mid song & during their track ‘Alien’ seeing the room light up with everyone phone torches. Naming highlights for a show that was full of highlights is very difficult but all up the whole show was next level.

The whole show was an incredible experience and its so incredible to see how far the band has come in such a short amount of time, extra intensity, extra sass, and a whole lot of talent in all areas. For anyone who hasn’t checked out a RedHook show before, do yourself a favour and get to a show.
