Finally ready to be canonized and catapulted to the masses, Foxing’s masterful new album Draw Down the Moon is out everywhere today. This is the soundtrack to a new world, and it’s the result of a band without the ability to take or make things lightly. Across a remarkable ten tracks, Draw Down The Moon goes galactic, drawing its source energy from unpacking the very nature of our cosmic significance. No small feat, it’s the kind of record with a range so vast and intense that the levees of all expectations never even stood a chance.

Next week, on August 14, Foxing will perform in front of a crowd for the first time in nearly two years, headlining their biggest hometown gig to date at The Pageant in St. Louis.

Draw Down The Moon came together after working for more than a year at the band’s studio in St. Louis, with guitarist Eric Hudson at the helm as producer. From there, the band took the songs to Georgia, where they holed up for a couple of weeks with members of Manchester Orchestra. Combining the efforts of two bands who are each known for composing such ambitious works might have been a recipe for disaster, but the collaborative process widened the scope of an already bold project.

The album’s title track comes alongside vocalist Conor Murphy’s video directorial debut; starring the Tony, Grammy & Emmy award-winning, legendary actor, André De Shields, the video captures the intensity of the song brilliantly. The St. Louis Shakespeare Festival actually allowed the band to use the set from their recent Shakespeare In The Park production of King Lear, also starring André De Shields. A huge portion of Foxing’s inspiration over the years has been both religion and the lore around role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. But for Draw Down The Moon, a title derived from Margot Adler’s ritual book Drawing Down The Moon, the band has been taking that idea of magic and rituals to an other-worldly and involved level.

Earlier this year, a link was posted that led to an early 90’s looking website with nothing but six “rituals” on-screen with only one unlocked – an Ouija-style puzzle to solve. The reward for figuring it out? Early access to the band’s first new song in over three years, the sprawling album closer, “Speak With The Dead” featuring WHY?. Each month, the rituals have continued to grow more challenging yet equally as rewarding. Watch the video for “If I Believed In Love” above.
