AKA Lui explodes back onto the scene with fresh dance pop anthem ‘Good Company’ co-produced by Aussie Disco heavyweight Kesmar (Lazywax) and accompanied by a provocative post-apocalyptic music video starring Lui himself alongside Nahal Donyadideh.

Outfitted in a shamelessly decadent leather and gold ensemble, the Op-Shop Pop producer turned Disco Punk weaves his signature vocal style into a soaring scrap-yard of vintage synths, filthy basslines and alluring propositions.

‘Good Company’ marks a departure from the bedroom psych pop incarnations of AKA Lui’s two previous releases (Hey! I Don’t Want That Anyway, Pushing Me Aside) into something that feels much larger. Speaking to his sonic shift, Lui explains: “Good Company hits different to things I’ve done previously. We used a lot of analogue gear this time, it felt like a natural progression from the DIY bedroom productions I was making the last few years. I like that working with Kesmar enabled me to create something that feels more “AKA Lui” than the tracks I was making on my own. He understands the sound and the aesthetic and together we were able to bring that vision to life. It’s an epic new direction for AKA Lui & I can’t wait to share more.”

The accompanying film clip also cements new territory for the rising alt-pop star. Drenched in gritty avant-garde themes involving shady deals, seduction and entrapment – the film clip was created with returning collaborator Zac Devine, and includes an alluring performance from Nahal Donyadideh hypnotically binding the brazen singer, who is taunted and contained with a steel chain in a twist of power.

Since releasing his debut single ‘Hey! I Don’t Want That Anyway’ in 2019, AKA Lui garnered a wave of early support from radio, blogs and tastemakers around the world. From features on The Line Of Best Fit (UK) and radio play on triple j (Kingsmill’s 2019) & KEXP (USA), to a re-release from French Label Kitsunè & Spotify support on New Music Friday and further editorial playlists across the globe. The track also hit #1 on Hype Machine and has racked up over 1.4 million streams on Spotify.

His follow up single, ‘Pushing Me Aside’ received broadcasting on RAGE, praise from press including NME and was added to Nike’s exclusive Night Time Run Playlist on Spotify. The track also received a dance-floor shaking remix from electronic duo Lazywax.

This is the first taste of AKA Lui’s new direction with the funk maestro working hard behind the scenes to finalise his debut EP set for release in 2022.
