Not one to sit still, Melbourne pop heavyweight ASHWARYA has today shared the captivating and hypnotic video for her latest single, ‘FLARE’ (via NOiZE Recordings). The video drop also marks the track being added officially to her acclaimed debut EP ‘Nocturnal Hours’.
“I feel like the video for FLARE perfectly encapsulates that dream-like feeling in the song with a lil splash of drama and tension.” says ASHWARYA of her latest video. The ethereal effect was created by using Vaseline on the VHS lens, thanks to the idea of Charles Buxton-Leslie, who directed the video. ASHWARYA’S outfit is an incredible upcycled piece which was originally a thrifted bed comforter by Naarm based designer Jaida the Creator.

‘FLARE’, which has already been added to full rotation on FBI radio, follows on from widely praised singles ‘LOVE AGAIN’, ‘TO THE NIGHT’ (ft Vic Mensa), ‘PSYCHO HOLE’, ‘BIRIYANI’ and ‘COMIN@ME’, all of which joined the previously unreleased track ‘HIDE YOU UP’, on ASHWARYA’s illustrious debut EP. From today, the EP will also include the latest single, ‘FLARE’ The body of work is a glamorous and insightful look into the mind of a young pop auteur, produced by Jarrad Rogers (Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Icona Pop) and mixed by Jamie Snell (Mura Masa, Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa). Nocturnal Hours is ASHWARYA at her purest, and speaks to her ambition to not only become a fixture of the pop landscape, but to stay true to her distinct personality and sound throughout. The record’s title reflects the pensieve and varied thoughts that arise once the sun goes down, and the palette matches, with gleaming synths and shuddering drum hits.
‘Nocturnal Hours’ has already received countless amounts of praise from publications such as NME, 10 Magazine, Fashion Journal, Frankie, Rolling Stone India and Pilerats. ASHWARYA has also been announced as one of the recipients of the coveted Bigsound 2021 Levi’s Music Prize and has been profiled in fashion bibles PAPER, Oyster Mag, The Face, ACCLAIM, COMPLEX and more. She has featured across numerous DSP playlists including the cover spot on Pop N Fresh, Front Left, Get Popped!, additions to over 20 New Music Fridays, and cemented her position at Australian radio.
