When did you journey making music as Acchy begin? Was there a defining moment when you knew you wanted to make some great music and put it out into the world?
I remember writing my first track and uploading it to Soundcloud like it was yesterday. The next day at school everyone was telling me how dope it was, that moment made me realise music was what I wanted to do.

You have such an identifiably Acchy sound, characterised by fierce, punchy vocals and strong beats, and songs which drip with soul and vulnerability. How would you describe your personal sound, or the evolution of your sound?
My sound has actually progressed more than most people realise. The moment that made me evolve most would probably be when I got a heap of hate for being similar to another rapper I looked up to at the time. As a result, I took a few months off writing songs to figure out who I wanted to be. Since then I have only really written melodic lyrics, and it is definitely where I see myself being the most authentic.

Which Acchy song would you recommend people listened to first if they have not yet heard your music?
‘Never Falling in Love Again’ is always my go to.

After you released singles, “Lost and Found” and “Baddie” many people have been eagerly awaiting more fresh music from you! You just released new single “Never Falling in Love Again”. Did you feel any pressure for the new single to live up to the expectations you set with your first two singles?
I feel a little bit of pressure to be honest, but I know that every track can’t always be as successful as the last one. So I just keep writing songs, and only release the best 10% of them.

What does the new track mean to you personally? Is never falling in love again a personal sentiment of yours at the moment?
NFILA was written from a pretty bitter place. I like to think I’ve moved on from that place, considering I wrote it a fair while ago. I (unsurprisingly) wrote it about an ex as a kind of middle finger to love, even though I don’t currently feel this way.

What kind of emotional response do you hope listeners will have after hearing the new single?
Put your foot down, and sing along like you’re the main character of your own movie.

“Never Falling in Love Again” has a cool 90’s pop-punk feel with hints of modern trap. Are there any particular influences who have inspired you creatively in the writing of this single?
The producer (IOF) really brought the track to life with his combination of real drums and 808s. It really reminded me of who I used to listen to as a kid, Green Day, Paramore etc…

The music video for “Never Falling in Love Again” was filmed in Melbourne’s Industrial District. The background of architecture in the district makes for an imposing sight! What was it like to film the video there? How did you decide where you would film?
It really blew me away how it turned out to shoot there, the scenery is really unique for most music videos to come out of Australia. I found the location by searching through rooftop car parks on google maps, and found one blurry photo of this spot and knew I needed to shoot there.

Do you tend to draw much on your own personal experiences in writing music? Or is your focus more on the external world around you?
I normally write about an overarching topic and then draw from my own experiences to craft the lyrics.

You tackle many complex issues in your music with a fearless attitude. Is there ever a limit or a boundary for you in terms of what you choose to write about?
I feel that the music behind the vocals really drive what I write about. I want to write about things which people can relate to, so I guess there isn’t really a limit.

If you had the chance to collaborate or perform live with any pop-punk or other music artist of your choosing, who would be right at the top of your list?
I could use this to say who everyone else would say, naming the megastars isn’t what I want to do though. I want to rock shows with the crew who are here with the same dream as me. Nate6, It’s Mdnight, Yung Trench, BLCKWILLOW are just a few who I would love to be on a show with.

Not too long ago you supported NATE6’s EP launch in Melbourne. Can you tell us a little about the launch and how it felt to be back out there performing live again?
It actually got cancelled L! Got plenty planned though J

Are you planning any live gigs in the coming year? What have you missed most about live performances in recent times?
Yes I am! I am planning to get involved with some festivals and maybe a headline show or two! Definitely miss meeting all the cool people who come out and see me for the first time.

What do you love most about the pop punk genre of music? Have you noticed any shifts in the pop punk scene in Australia over the past few years?
I really admire how pop punk has been making a comeback in recent years. I feel that today’s rebellious middle-schoolers would be missing out if it wasn’t being revived. I have noticed a lot of new artists moving towards pop punk and experimenting with new sounds. However I still feel like Australia needs more artists who are willing to break the mould and stand out.

What direction do you see yourself traveling next in your music career? What is one thing you are hoping to achieve in your music career in the future?
I honestly have no idea where I am heading in the next few years. I am just excited to see where it takes me, and maybe I’ll pick up a few more people who like my music!
