BIO

From their 2014 inception, to 2021 single Parallelysis, Australian Hybrid Metal band Toxicon continue to push themselves both lyrically and sonically.

Parallelysis marks a new mature and intentional direction for the 5 piece – acting as a taste of things to come from their upcoming 2022 album Be The Fire & Wish For The Wind. The track is an honest and insightful look at the music industry, depicting the sacrifice and loss of relationships through the constant struggle that musicians endure on the day to day; juggling the pull of personal life, family and friends with the undying push from within to create and perform at a high level.

Seeds for this story were firmly planted in 2012, with guitarists Paul Jones and Adam Esposti taking their highschool love of all things heavy metal and laying down the roots of what Toxicon would later become. Cheap gear and limited ability wouldn’t hinder the duo’s determination to create, and were soon after joined by bassist Jacob Maloney – an offhanded acquaintance of Adam’s partner at the time. The 3-piece would search for a drummer throughout 2013, and would welcome Paul’s childhood friend Thomas Nunan as permanent stick man later that same year. Vocalist Wayne Clarris would be the last member to join after replying to an ad the band had put up on a local music message board. The magic was in the air and the chemistry between all 5 musicians was nothing like any of them had ever experienced.

The band ambitiously booked their debut show – a  stress inducing 3 hour set of covers and originals for a local motorcycle club, at their club house.

Not to be discouraged, Toxicon was officially born in February 2014, and celebrated their new found life at a dive bar in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, performing 6 original songs for 5 punters and 4 bar staff. The 5-piece would continue to hone their craft and create more material throughout 2014 and 2015, adapting their original plan of a 6 song EP into an 11 song concept album.

Void, the band’s first single, was released in early 2016 with debut album Purge being unveiled soon after. Purge was met with positive reviews from the music industry, and saw tracks Void, Into The Filth and Face Of The Earth garner strong radio play.

Liberated by the success of Purge and its subsequent tour, all bets were off and the band pushed full steam ahead with new ideas and lyrical content. Stand alone single Circling would be a taste of Toxicon’s giant step forward sonically, and once again would be backed by high praise from music media and another Australian tour in late 2017.

2018 and 2019 proved to be the most important, yet destructive years for Toxicon. Not content with their current sonic stature, the band would write and  pre-produce over 30 songs for their next album. Analysing every note, every transition and every lyric, the 5-piece put every free minute of their lives into their music.

The toll this process took was as costly as it was necessary. After 8 long years, guitarist and founding member Paul Jones made the decision to leave the band in 2020, and Toxicon was now at a crossroads. They were sitting on a record they believed to be timeless and undeniable, but were a member down and fractured, with no current plans for a release.

Hope, however, would come from an unlikely place. Bassist Jacob Maloney had let slip to his regular group of video gaming buddies that the band would be looking for a new guitarist. Among this group was Bart Walters – not only lifelong friend of Jacob, but career long Toxicon fan and guitar player. The two got to talking and before too long, Bart was around at Adam’s house learning the most complex material from Be The Fire & Wish For The Wind.

Joining the band for a few rehearsals in 2021, Bart would help reignite the fire the band had lost. The chemistry that hadn’t been felt since their inception was now running rampant and stronger than ever.

Audaciously constructed and irrefutably intentional, Be The Fire & Wish For The Wind looks to spearhead the genre of Hybrid Metal with its release in 2022, and will act as a warning shot for heavy and alternative music fans everywhere to look up and pay attention.
