Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug? Or?
I always loved to sing, ever since I was 5. But it really wasn’t until I was 22 — around my first heartbreak — that songwriting felt natural and exciting to me. 

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I would describe my sound as indie pop western. That’s not a genre really, but I am making it one :) I think they do because it sounds nostalgic and western, but also modern at the same time. 

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today? 
Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rogers, Noah Kahan, LEON, HAIM, Leon Bridges, and John Mayer. 

Your new single renaissance man has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution. 
Yayy!! This song is a thank you note to my parents and a love letter to my future family at the same time. It’s about how much I adore my parents and how they raised me, and the dream family I hope to have one day. It really came out of me when I left my family after quarenting for months with them! The production evolved as I created a fairytale / romatic mood board to go along with the song. It’s very inspired by “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board right now?
There is :) 

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I just played a show at Rockwood in NYC, and I’m hoping to get a lot more NYC shows on the books!

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
I started releasing music 4 months before covid, so I had no shows that were canceled. I took advantage of the time and made myself focus on my craft. 

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why? 
Harry Styles. We would put on a hell of a show. 

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist? 
Play on and host SNL 

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Seeing people sing my lyrics!!!!!!!

Sidney Bird is a southwestern darling making a name for herself in New York City. Born and raised in Arizona, Bird holds her own in the western pop scene, alongside artists like Kacey Musgraves and Leon Bridges. A true crossover act, she feels a strong creative impulse when home in Arizona, writing all of her songs there before fleshing them out with producers in Brooklyn. “I grew up listening to Barenaked Ladies, Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell,” says Bird. “Then became obsessed with Katy Perry, Britney Spears––all the popstars”

Bird’s background in comedy and musical theater fuels a deep love for world-building and storytelling: “Sometimes I feel like I’m playing characters through my music, using them as a vehicle to express honest and genuine feelings.” Her 2020 debut album “Bad Timing,” featuring singles like “Kisses” and “Wild,” has garnered over 1.7 million combined streams to date. In 2021, Bird followed up with her EP “Big Heart,” debuting the project live at Rockwood Music Hall at the end of the year. With a wealth of music ready for release and a dedicated community of listeners, Bird is well-positioned to make 2022 her year.

Sidney is super excited to share her new single “Renaissance Man”, set to release on January 11th.

Here’s what she had to say about it: “I wrote ‘Renaissance Man’ after reflecting long and hard about my childhood and how my parents raised me. I feel so grateful that I have such amazing and supportive parents, and I aspire to be like them one day. Although I am not looking to have kids anytime soon, this song is about the children I wish to have one day, and a thank you letter to my wonderful parents”.
