Going full-throttle in their 2022 return, ARIA-chart topping duo Hermitude today announce their forthcoming album, Mirror Mountain, out May 6 via Elefant Traks. The news arrives alongside their latest single and video, “Promises” featuring fellow Blue Mountains-born artist, Andie, out now.
Recorded in a Blackheath home studio, after multiple writing trips across New Zealand and Japan, Mirror Mountain is El Gusto and Dubs’ “love letter to our hometown” in the Blue Mountains, country of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. “We wrote this last year in Gusto’s house, so it has a really personal feel to us”, they say, in turn becoming a homage to the region’s local community and the regrowth it inspired within the Hermitude project. Driven by the serene and silent surroundings, their seventh full length release sees Hermitude return to their roots in more ways than one, taking a deep dive into their core musical DNA while giving back to the fans who have been there from the very beginning.
After giving us their New Year’s Eve heater and accompanying video, “St Claire”, Luke Dubs and El Gusto now drop their next slice of new music that’s altogether uplifting and pop-leaning. Lush synth textures and vocal call-outs from Andie on “Promises” accompany a filtered melody line that’s instantly contagious and beckoning for a dancefloor. Bouncing break-style beats punctuate the track as it grows in energy and momentum, as Andie pleads, ‘baby don’t go back on your promises’ with addictive fervor.
Consistently linking back to their home region, it took an idea from the pair to visit their local Blackheath Community Hall where they’d previously started their Pollyanarchy world tour. After convincing the owners to let them inside, with a handheld recorder and bags of percussion in tow, Hermitude recorded the opening sounds of “Promises” by dropping meditation balls off the stage, banging cowbells and scraping ladders together to great effect. The track’s accompanying music video, directed by Nick Sullivan, also takes place in the backdrop of the Blue Mountains, following a story of growth and change as a man races to his love interest, encountering quirky characters and surreal happenings throughout.
Hermitude say of the single, “Drawing influence from 90s rave breaks, ‘Promises’ is an uplifting firecracker that will bring you together with your friends for a sweaty dance floor reunion of love and fun.”
Together, “St Claire” and “Promises” welcome a visceral re-energising and musical homecoming for the pair, following their previous long-play, Pollyanarchy, released in 2019. Since release, “St Claire” has enjoyed widespread Spotify and Apple Music support globally, as well as additions to the former’s Front Left, The Local List and New Music Friday playlists.

Award-winning multi-instrumentalists Luke Dubs and El Gusto have moved from strength to strength as Hermitude, since meeting in their early teens. First signing to Elefant Traks in 2002, the pair have marked out a sonic footprint that is defined by their hip-hop roots and electronic soundscapes. Their 2012 album, Hyperparadise would see its title track reach #38 on the ARIA Charts and its Flume remix hit speakers everywhere, while their single “Speak of the Devil” would win a J Award for Music Video of the Year. Their follow-up album, Dark Night Sweet Light debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts, with singles “The Buzz” featuring Mataya and Young Tapz firmly placing them on the world map. Their latest album, Pollyanarchy again reflected the duo’s development as one of the country’s best duos, adored by triple j and press nationally. Most recently, “Hyperparadise” received a Tropkillaz remix, and its previous flip from Flume and GANZ was featured on EA Sports’ FIFA 2022 soundtrack.
Having toured the world at their own sold-out headline shows, and at some of the biggest festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, Field Day, Spilt Milk, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Lollapalooza, The Governors Ball and more, Hermitude’s return to the live stage is hugely anticipated for fans worldwide in 2022. Coming up, Hermitude will head to For Shore festival in Queensland’s Sandstone Point on February 12. Western Australian fans will be in for another treat when the pair return for Busselton’s Out of the Woods festival across the ANZAC Day long weekend in April.
Today, enjoy the next step in a long-awaited and highly applauded return from one of Australia’s most beloved electronic acts, Hermitude, as they share their latest single “Promises” and mark one step closer to Mirror Mountain.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
