Praise for MOUSEY:
“Close’s faultless vocals hold your hand and walk you through a dozen sunny, folk-pop cuts.” – Under the Radar
“Her voice is thick as maple syrup, coloring with dark supple shades of amber that is as haunting as it is necessary.” – B-Sides & Badlands
“Lemon Law can be a full blown sitting in the rain, having a cry album, or a collection of summary, nostalgic tunes – take your pick whatever your mood…” – Under the Radar
“Even just a cursory listen would tell you there is a great depth of lyrical, vocal and songwriting talent here.” – Elsewhere.co.nz
“Why isn’t this Christchurch indie-pop artist huge already? Sarena Close is clearly a solid songwriter with range, depth, and a great voice to boot.” – Kirsten Johnstone, RNZ

New Zealand based singer-songwriter Sarena Close has released her latest single “My Hands Are Made Of Glass,” under the pen name MOUSEY from her upcoming album My Friends – out March 11th – preorder here.
My Friends was recorded over the period of a couple of months with Ben Edwards at The Sitting Room (Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin), and holds a strong focus on her friends and her relationships with them, along with “being let down but being loved”.
With a strong sense of melody and emotionally raw sincerity, MOUSEY cherishes the art of communicating the human experience above all else. The Christchurch musician is inspired by such artists as Thom Yorke, Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, Angel Olsen and Sufjan Stevens. Her sound defies the restrictions of genre and her music provides a unique and powerful insight into this wonderful and confusing world.
Speaking on the track, MOUSEY said, “This song is me at my lowest. I love people so much but sometimes I hurt them and it makes me want to lock myself away so I can’t hurt anyone anymore. I wanted the strings to sound like fingers on a chalkboard, screeching up and down. The peak of the song feels like inner chaos incarnate. This song also has a drum machine, programmed by my friend Lukas (pickle darling) I’ve never used one in my music before but having it sit as a layer underneath the song helps make it more cold and disconnected.”

MOUSEY has learnt a lot since her first record. Her 2019 debut album LEMON LAW marked a significant milestone for MOUSEY, whose star has been on the rise since the release of the album’s first single “Extreme Highs,” which earned her a nomination at the 2019 APRA Silver Scrolls. The year 2020 would also see her as a finalist for the Auckland Live Best Independent Debut prize at the Taite awards and performing at the Silver Scroll awards with an impressive performance of LAB’s In the Air. In late 2021, MOUSEY released her first single from the EP, “The Bench” which received praise from Women In Pop, Amnplify, Sniffer, CrushCop and more.
MOUSEY’s live performance is not to be forgotten though. Her vocals stand alone like few others, and listeners find themselves drawn in – transfixed by her songs and the way she tells them.
“My Hands Are Made Of Glass” is available on all platforms now.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
